Overview

Though Baker & Myers are talented professional songwriters, they haven't quite developed into skilled performers of their own, as their eponymous debut proves. Neither has very compelling voices, while the studio musicians make the music too polished to truly stick. Still, the duo's strong point is slickness, such as on John Michael Montgomery's hit "I Swear," yet slickness has to be delivered with a little more flair than the pleasant, but dull, professionalism that comprises Baker & Myers. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
