The "Amazing Animal Series" offers early readers a look at the animal kingdom. Each title focuses on a particular animal, and provides information about what they eat, their habitat, enemies, and family life. There are six titles in this series. Bald eagles are large, powerful birds. They have very sharp talons and a wing span that stretches up to seven feet. This wingspan allows them to ride strong wind currents and fly for long periods of time without flapping their wings. Bald eagles are amazing animals. They can fly up to 10,000 feet, dive at 100 miles per hour, and swim. Ninety percent of their diet is fish, and they eat about 10" of their body weight each day. Bald eagles only live in North America, and often live by the water. Humans are the biggest thread to eagles. Hunting, losses of habitat, and pollution have led to a decline in their population. This book is nicely illustrated with numerous photographs.
