Biography

Steve Berry first burst on the scene in 2003 and 2004 with The Amber Room and The Romanov Prophecy, a pair of twisty, adrenaline-laced thrillers with intriguing historical mysteries at their heart. Since then, Berry's novels have gone on to gather international momentum, earning spots on The New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, and BookSense bestseller lists.

A practicing attorney, Berry has been writing since 1990. And although his undergraduate degree was in political science, it was his interest in history that led to him to writing international suspense thrillers. Simply put, the books he liked to read became the books he liked to write. He continues to wrap his novels in fascinating secrets, conspiracies, and mysteries from the past (religious prophecy, ancient manuscripts, lost treasure, Vatican intrigue, etc.), concocting dandy plots his readers love to unravel.

Berry credits the nuns who taught him in Catholic school with instilling the discipline needed both to craft a novel and to find a publisher. Indeed, he claims to be the poster child for stick-to-itiveness: It took him 12 years and 85 rejections to finally sell a manuscript to Ballantine Books! Clearly, his perseverance has paid off. Today, his novels appear in 43 countries and 41 languages worldwide.

    too bad

I too was sorry I did not read the reviews. Short story is right. Although I am reading The Emperors Tomb now and it does offer a little background info.

Only complaint was that it was so short. Got me hooked and can't wait to read next book.

    Disappointed....

Big Berry fan. Read 'em all. Malone Clone and 100% Cotton, but...respectfully again...disappointed. At least add in some more substance and about 25 pages....

    Good Short Story

This is a good short story (15 pages) from Berry that puts a little background regarding Cassiopeia Vitt and the upcoming full story - The Emperor's Tomb.

    Short and fun

This was a short and fun story with one of the characters from the Cotton Malone series, Cassiopia Vitt. I love reading all of Steve Berry's books and for someone who hasn't read him yet, this would be a great story to start with. If you like it, then I would recommend picking up the Cotton Malone series.

    Great read, just too short!

I knew it was a short one, but I was hoping the story would be longer after I started reading it!

    Pay for Short Stories?

Sorry, but I don't believe in paying for short stories. Add them to the back of a novel as a bonus - especially with the high prices for ebooks. Next thing you know we'll be paying one chapter at a time.

    Disappointing

Extremely short and very disappointing. At least add in some substance. Good promo for The Emperors Tomb though.

A great short story by a great author

This short story sucked me in just like Steve Berrys other books. If you lik ehim and are into the Cotton Malone Series, this is great to read before getting into his sixth book in the series.

    Got Me

My fault. I should have read the description closer. I thought " A book from one of my favorite authors that I hadn't read yet ". It was a really good price too. Shame on you Barnes&Noble.

    What???

When they say it's a short story, they aren't kidding!! 26 Pages, wow!! I read and then kept going to back to the web to try and download the rest. I thought my nook was broken... It was only after reading some other reviews that I realized there wasn't anymore. I feel ripped off... Wish it was more clearly identified as a trailer/teaser for the next book, then I wouldn't have wasted my time and the $1.59 for 20 some pages!!!

    Not worth the money

This was only a chapter of an upcoming book. Save your $1.59 towards the price of the book when it comes out. Love Steve Berry but this was pretty incomplete...felt like it was a money grab.

    recommended....

simply as a primer for The Emporer's Tomb. Shorter than I expected. Wish was a little more detailed, but I am sure there is a reason for it's being a little vague.
