    Best historical sports book ever!!!

    Wanting to learn about the history of the beautiful game I stumbled across this fine read. Takes the reader through the birth of local kicking and handling games, to the Rugby, Football split, to the global sensation football is. It not only explains the where and when for various football milestones, but describes, in detail, the socioeconomic situations that caused these events. (It gives brief recaps of important matches that really enable one to get the feel of the sport during that era.
    The book is almost 1000 pages but I read it within two weeks due to David Goldblatt's fine writing style.
    I was a fan of soccer before this book and now I am a fanatic.
    Great read for any sport fan or anyone who would like a better understanding of global development (social, economic, or political).
