Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This title in the "Checkerboard Geography Library: Cities" series is a colorful introduction to the capital of Thailand. It offers a lot of information about the geography, government, and history of the city. A list of the kings is included, and they all share the same name, Rama, with numbers to indicate who was who. Bangkok is the center of trade and industry in Thailand and, because of many man-made canals, the capital has become an international port on the Gulf of Thailand. Monsoons are explained. There is a focus on the culture and religious beliefs of the people and their houses of worship. A glossary and a pronunciation guide conclude the book, and the website of the publisher is listed for further information. This title is attractive enough to be useful to an elementary school age child and fairly well written, cramming a lot of information into a slim book. 2005, ABDO Publishing Company, Ages 8 to 12.
