Overview

Why is it that even the most disorganised person never seems to lose their toothbrush?

How can this simple fact solve all our clutter problems?

The Toothbrush Principle is a simple yet inspired approach to de-cluttering your home. Whether you live in a mansion or a bedsit, this book will show you how to:

organise according to the unconscious blueprint that naturally 'tidy' people have, so that you live clutter free all the time, effortlessly

know what to throw away with confidence

organise your wardrobe so you get much more use out of the things you have

work from home productively in a clear, designated space, and tame your inbox

Step by step, room by room, you'll soon find that you hardly ever lose things, massive clear-outs will become a thing of the past and you'll never spend more than 10 minutes a day tidying up.

So stop drowning in piles of clutter and start creating space to live out the life of your dreams!

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Chandra, a singer/songwriter with ten albums to her credit, shares her principles for creating a harmonious environment when juggling a business, home life, and social responsibilities. Her two best tips suggest zoning (placing objects where they will be used) and completion (putting things away right after using them). As in many other books of this genre, Chandra takes readers through the house and office, room by room, and gives directives for organizing things or throwing them away. Other than some interesting points in the chapter on myths and bad habits, the book offers nothing new. [See also Alicia Rockmore and Sarah Welch's Pretty Neat, reviewed below.—Ed.]

    This works

Having spent years organizing offices for pay, I was, unfortunately, not applying those principles at home. My office career was high pressure with many irons in the fire, deadlines, etc. I always excelled at work, but not at home. Ms Chandra's book really made me rethink my at home mindset. I know the system works because it is basically how I kept my office and what I required of my employees. I needed to understand that all I needed to do was apply those work/office/deadline/paperwork handling principles to my closets and my kitchen and all the other living spaces of my home. She is so right in how much easier and more relaxed your home is uncluttered and everything is in it's proper place. Once you're there, the maintenance is a breeze. I can't tell you how anxiety relieving that is. I no longer look around and feel guilty because "I really need to (fill in the blank"). I have more time to do what I want instead of flailing about accomplishing little or nothing of note.
If you really want to reduce your constant, low-grade, anxiety, read this book and truly commit to do it. You'll be amazed at the difference in your whole outlook on life. You'll feel more in charge of your life rather than constantly reacting. You'll be more relaxed, your stress level will take a nose dive, and you'll have a much sunnier outlook on life.
