Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 5-8--Several well-written books about Jordan are already available for this audience, including Rose Blue and Corinne Naden's Barbara Jordan (Chelsea, 1992), and Laura Jeffrey's Barbara Jordan (Enslow, 1997). Rhodes opens by detailing the investigation of the Watergate scandal, emphasizing Jordan's role on the House Judiciary Committee and her dramatic speech recommending Nixon's impeachment. The book is well organized and competently written. There are frequent quotes from Jordan's autobiography as well as other primary sources. Well-chosen black-and-white photos enhance the narrative. Overlooking a few editing errors (e.g., Harris County, TX, is referred to as "Harrison County" and the first name of actress Cicely Tyson is misspelled), this biography will provide objective introductory information for reports.--Phyllis Graves, Creekwood Middle School, Kingwood, TX
