    exceptional offering

This piece has been used in movies, television and various other events because it is so evocative. As a college music teacher I have recommended it to many students. This CD has a variety of transcriptions which amazingly all work. My favorite is the choral Agnus Dei, which Barber himself arranged from his famous adagio. The a capella voices touch a deep emotional core that rivals the string version. This is NOT background music. Get comfortable, turn on the stereo and grab a hankie. If this doesn't move you, check your pulse.

    The Best Adagio Ever Written!

Barber's Adagio is hands down the most beautiful music ever written. You can't help but stop and listen, and if you are inclinded to emotionally reacting to music, you will be moved to tears.

    Incredible!!!

I must say it again, it is the most incredible piece of music. It makes me so emotional. It has a level of depth I can barely comprehend. It's so gorgeous! I now have a new favorite piece of music

    Magnificent!

I agree with you Rosey Dickens! This particular piece: Adagio in Strings is absolutely, powerfully moving to the soul. I witnessed the unbelievable rendition of this piece with the glorious perfomance of Cirque D'Eloize at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. I literally broke down, ruined my make-up and let the tears flow unrelentlessly! I was moved beyond speech! God had to create music because it's beyond the capacity of man to think that this beauty could ever be created by our feeble minds. Barber is truly blessed. I'm greatful he has chosen to share his musical gifts with the rest of the world.

World Trade Center Memorial Played this piece

I watched the World Trade Center Memorial Service last year after 9/11 and Adagio For Strings was one of the pieces played at the service. How moving. 10 minutes of beautiful yet haunting music. It took some time for me to track down the title and composer but I finally found this CD.

    Absolutely otherworldly

Adagio for Strings, easily the most beautiful piece I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. It's melody strikes at your very soul, at your heart. Bringing both ultimate euphoria and sadness, it is difficult to listen to this piece without crying. Breath-taking, and it will always and forever be played in my very spirit.

    Moving

This is possibly the most moving peice of music I have listened to in a long time. I was first introduced to it by my LA teacher, Mr. Ranshaw. I then saw the movie Platoon, which has it as well. I would say that this music strikes a chord deep inside the human soul. It conveys suffering and sadness, but does it in such a way as that you are actually feeling the emotion. This piece of music has me in tears each time I listen to it. Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Nigel Wells, [Retired] NLCC CAPTIAN JACKSON.

    Best Classical Song EVER!!!

I love Tchaivoksy, but when I first heard Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings it was very beautiful, but at the same time was sad and depressing. This was no ordinary classical song I've ever heard before. I mean classical songs done by my favorite Tchaivoksy I love and adore, but Adagio for Strings was better than my usual favorites. This song has so much depth into it that it makes you wish you had composed it. No wonder it's widely used in movies like the Elephant Man or Platoon.
