Bare Bonesby Madeleine Peyroux
With Bare Bones, Madeleine Peyroux has crafted her best album yet, an artistic breakthrough that finds her smoky voice wrapped around a collection of songs that she helped craft from their inception, marking her evolution as a songwriter. Peyroux shares songwriting credit with album producer Larry Klein, Walter Becker, Julian Coryell, Joe Henry, David Batteau and Sean Wayland. One song, “I Must Be Saved,” was written entirely by Peyroux.
Peyroux says the album builds from wariness to loss, acceptance and, finally, hope. “I’m really happy that I got to write,” says Peyroux, “It feels like a new segment, and it’s great work. I’m surrounded by beautiful sounds, really honest musicians, really honest playing.” From the Label

Wow! What a great album in every respect, from the soulful, rolling, swingin' beginning of "Instead" to the song "River of Tears" that made me cry for its heart-wrenching story, this album is her best effort. And I've heard them all. What a great voice Madeleine has! Her singing makes me want "To Love [Her] All Over Again."
It swings and sooths the mind
Madeleine Peyroux's voice shines in these songs! The arrangements are, as usual in Peyroux's albums fresh and extremely listenable. I love the choice of songs. Easily a great buy! Beverly Hickman
Up to this time I've enjoyed all of M Peyroux's albums. This one is a message sender not an entertaining piece of work. The backup's are limpid, as is her sound throughout. There is no variety to her presentations. I hope she returns to what worked for her previous releases as her talent is huge.
Yummy music, silky voice, challenging and interesting. I can hear this music over and over and not tire of it. Love this artist!
While it may not be quite as versatile as her previous first recording with Rounder Records, it is hauntingly beautiful in a way that no one but Madeleine Peyroux can do. This recording has a bit slower pace overall, showcasing her ability to slow you down and make you listen. Her voice remains rare and exotic, the lyrics deep and moving, and featuring some of her writing talent as well as her incredible voice. An album you could listen to over and over again. Can't wait to see what comes next from Ms. Peyroux!
This is a wonderful CD. Relaxing and yet can be listened to while driving. Wonderful voice.Wonderful songs.
