A Barefoot Bay Novel

When running is all you've ever known . . .

Caught between fight and flight, Zoe Tamarin has always picked flight. Since she was rescued from a nightmare childhood by her great-aunt Pasha, they've been on the move, never staying in one place long enough to risk exposing their precarious past. But now that they've reached the sun-baked shores of Barefoot Bay, Zoe may have to stay and fight-for her aunt's life . . . and for a love she ran from years before.

Sometimes the bravest act of all is to stand still.

Oliver Bradbury came to Florida to start over, as both a doctor and a father to his eight-year-old son. He never expected life to hand him a second chance with the woman he lost years ago-but one look at Zoe Tamarin and he knows he'll do whatever it takes to prove that this time, he can be the man she needs. But when demands of family and friendship threaten to shatter their rekindled passion, Oliver must heal Zoe's lifelong wounds with more than hot kisses . . . but will that be enough to keep her from flying off with his heart?

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In this fun and engaging third installment of the Barefoot Bay contemporary quartet (after Barefoot in the Rain), an upright, forthright oncologist and a frightened woman in hiding get a second chance at love. Zoe Tamarin has spent her whole life running, guided by her “great-aunt” Pasha, a neighbor who rescued Zoe from her abusive childhood home. They settled briefly in Illinois, where Zoe revealed everything to her beloved, Dr. Oliver Bradbury. But when he reacted badly, she ran from him too. Nine years later, in Barefoot Bay, Fla., Zoe seeks out Oliver again because Pasha needs his medical help, and they realize the chemistry and love they once shared is as strong as ever. While Zoe’s friends and Oliver try to convince her that planting roots will finally make her happy, the voice in her head still whispers, “Run, Zoe, run”—especially when Pasha’s hidden history comes to light. The plot is somewhat farfetched, but readers will appreciate the resilient heroine and her journey. (May)

This is another wonderful story by one of my favorite authors, Roxanne St. Claire. The third in her "Barefoot Bay" series. If you enjoy a contemporary with depth I recommend this book to you.

Zoe is the smart-talking heroine of the book, although she is first introduced in Barefoot in the Sand. She is a layered character--what you see isn't always what you get.

Oliver, the hero, comes across at the beginning a little stiff... perhaps a little serious...but after all he is a doctor. It fits his character. He quickly grew on me.

For me, Oliver's son stole the show. Roxanne knows how to write kids. Evan was a precocious eight year old who I found a sweet addition to the story.

I hope you enjoy the story as much as I did. I have recommended all of the Barefoot Bay books to my friends.

I fell in love with Roxanne St. Claire after reading the second book in the series, Barefoot in the Rain. I have to say this story did not let me down. I’ve learned that going into a Roxanne book, you have to be prepared to cry. The only question is....how much crying will you end up doing and when.

Barefoot in the Sun did not let me down. This is a true second chance love story that will make you laugh, cry, and scream at the hero and heroine.

Zoe is someone I can relate to. Oliver is just a guy I want to have to myself. They’re great together with their give and take. I love the love these two have for each other and those around them. While I prepared myself for the emotional rollercoaster, I wasn’t prepared for the little mystery.

Barefoot in the Sun will allow you to see the steps and risks someone will endure for someone they truly love. When all is said and done, you will be very happy that you took the time to read this book.

Wonderful...Barefoot in the Sun...no more running? We will see.....
Beautiful, Everlasting, Soul searching, September 25, 2013
    By Ramona Kekstadt
This review is from: Barefoot in the Sun (Barefoot Bay) (Mass Market Paperback)
When it comes to a beautiful story about family, forgiveness, two souls find each other this is the story you want to read. Zoe ran with her great aunt Pasha, you will understand why once you further get into the book. It's hurts Oliver but he has other issues he runs into. When they meet up again Zoe needs his help for Pasha, but she has to make sure he won't ever tell her secret.. Zoe finds out his secret unexpectedly and is overwhelmed and runs which she has done for a long time..whenever things go bad...she hears in her head Run, Zoe Run....Oliver agrees to help but also wants something in return, which is very interesting in a way that will break your heart and also touch..Zoe wants to put roots down and finally call a place home...will she be able to? Or will she run again? She tell's her best friends the truth about herself and Pasha, she was so afraid but Tessa told Zoe that they were her family. When Tessa came into the room by herself it was the sweetest moment between them. When all of the sitting on the bed with the baby...you just want to hug someone. Tessa the nurturer brought her a bag of herbs for her swollen eyes. Zoe finally stopped one day and gave into to spend the day with Oliver and Evan who she really likes...They went shopping for a dog...emotional, and sweet...it's just amazing the bond formed..
The book is out of this world. Roxanne just brings so many things in the Barefoot Bay series that you will love. I have loved her books since an anthology I read "What you Can't See"...I started reading her Guardian Angelino series, then the Bullet Catchers then from there the Barefoot Bay books...she is amazing..

Zoe Tamarin is a free spirit who doesn’t stay anywhere long. She is loyal to those she loves, Great Aunt Pasha who raised her and her best friends. But Zoe has a secret that no one knows.

Dr. Oliver Bradbury has only loved one woman but she broke his heart when she left. A chance meeting brings Oliver & Zoe together again. Will Oliver be able to break Zoe’s walls or will she leave him broken hearted again?

I went from loving Zoe to resenting her. That alone makes this a wonderfully written story because of the strong emotional connection the reader feels for the characters.

I have enjoyed the entire Barefoot series so far and this was the book I anticipated the most. I could not wait to read about Zoe and Oliver! The story was about more than just the romance, covering past secrets that kept the couple apart. Second chance romances are always a good read and this one did not disappoint. This book was emotional, funny and even hot at times. Many of the side characters are very entertaining and add a great deal to the depth of the book. Roxanne is very good at describing details and it is easy to picture Barefoot Bay in my mind. I look forward to more books in this series.

I'm a fan of Roxanne St. Claire but this wasn't one of my favorites.  The story was good but after a while it became too repetitive - Zoe's insecurities just kept getting in the way of her happiness.  But I can't wait to read the next book!  I hope Tessa gets what she wants and deserves!  And also that she gets even with that jerk ex-husband!!

Another fantastic book in Roxanne St.Claire's Barefoot Bay serie

Another fantastic book in Roxanne St.Claire's Barefoot Bay series, Barefoot in the Sun is the most poignant of the three.
Zoe is thrown back together with old love, Oliver after he delivers her best friend Lacy's baby at the opening of the new Barefoot Bay resort.
And just in time, too, as Zoe's adopted mom, Pasha is in need of the oncologist's experimental treatments. Zoe and Pasha's shady past
and legal troubles keep them from using the more traditional healthcare routes, and Zoe hopes her long ago love affair with Oliver will
giver her some leverage in enlisting his help without 'outing' Pasha to the authorities.
Oliver, now divorced and parenting his above-average eight year old son for the summer, isn't sure he wants to take the chance of
restarting their relationship, since Zoe baled on him last time without so much as a goodbye note.
As always, Ms. St.Claire delivers well-drawn characters, so believable they sometimes break your heart, and a plot line that keeps you
turning the pages late into the night.
I finished this book in two sessions - broken only by the necessity of going to work - and am looking forward to the next entry in the
Barefoot Bay series. Take this one to the beach - or the city - wherever you are it's sure to capture your heart.

I really like Roxanne St.Claire's style of writing and the Barefoot Bay series is no exception. I like how she has created a world that I would very much love to live in and possibly be one of the 'best friends' in these stories!
This is the 3rd book in the Barefoot Bay series and although I thoroughly enjoyed every one of them I think Barefoot in the Sun is my favorite. Zoe is a very complex personality and I feel a lot of people will be able to relate to her for many different reasons, I know I did.
Barefoot in the Sun has a very strong story line. It has a depth that you can really get lost in. The characters are very believable and the story read so smooth that I never found a good 'stopping point', which got me in trouble a few times! 'No No! Not now...just 5 more minutes'! Ms. St.Claire did a great deal of research for this book and it shows throughout this incredible story. Her creativity shines with Zoe, Oliver, Pasha, Evan and all the others that came together in this tale that will make you laugh, cry, wonder, get angry and fall in love with Barefoot Bay...and definitely Roxanne St.Claire!
Follow her on Facebook and she also has a blog, through these I feel as though I know her. She's warm, funny, creative, honest and just a really nice lady.

The Barefoot Series is a great contemporary love story.
Follow Zoe and Oliver as they get a second chance at love and learning to trust. Zoe is trying to save her Aunt Pasha who saved her life. But in doing so she needs Oliver's help and trust. As you read you will both cheer and at times want to throttle the two for being dense but that is all part of love. This is the third in the series and if you have not read the others you will want to go back and read them.

When she was ten, Zoe Tamarin was rescued from a nightmare child

When she was ten, Zoe Tamarin was rescued from a nightmare childhood by her great-aunt Pasha. They've been running ever since, never staying in one place long enough to grow roots or form attachments. The only exceptions are Zoe's three best friends in Barefoot Bay, and the one man she had to let go. Dr. Oliver Bradbury never got over the day Zoe walked out on him without a word. Now she was back, wanting him to risk everything to save Pasha, the woman who took Zoe from him in the first place. This may just be the second chance he's waited nine years for, but he needs to get Zoe to understand that when running is all she's ever known, sometimes the bravest act is standing still.

These books are part of the Barefoot Bay series, with Barefoot in the Sand & Barefoot in the Rain coming before, and Barefoot by the Sea coming in October 2013.

These Barefoot Bay books are addictive. Ideal, beautiful setting, a close cluster of eccentric friends, and finding love... one by one by one. Admittedly, Zoe's story interested me the least. Until I read it and found out why she was always running. I got to see a deeper side to the flighty woman and completely understand. And wow, Oliver? Hawt. The new secondary characters in this book, like Oliver's son, Evan, were just a delight and moved the plot. I loved that we got to see inside Pasha's head too. This third book was full of humor, heart, and grief. Not to be missed. I cannot wait for Tessa's story.

Zoe Tamarin has been on the run for years.  She believes her “Aunt Pasha” has saved her from an abusive father and knows the true reason why they must keep moving from place to place – because Aunt Pasha is wanted by the law.  Now she meets Oliver Bradbury when she shows up at his cancer clinic in Florida, a place where they are using experimental treatment protocols to save the lives of terminally ill cancer patients.
Oliver lost the one true love of his life and only has an 8 year-old son whom he seems to avoid all the time, working away his grief over his wife’s death.  Oliver’s son, Evan, is a pip of a boy who has a sharp tongue for almost everyone as he quickly picks up the “lines” all use on him with strength but without much compassion or empathy.  His Dad works himself silly and has little time for his son.
Zoe meets Evan and they click together immediately, having the same irreverent and realistic sense of humor.  When Zoe asks Oliver’s help for Pasha who is very ill with cancer, we aren’t sure how that will turn out as Pasha wants help without any hospital involvement.  For she’s got a shocking secret that the reader will not learn for quite a while.  Meanwhile, after much back and forth hassling arguments about her medical condition, Pasha finally agrees to be treated by Dr. Oliver. Things become intensely complicated for her when the law arrives and says she’s wanted for murder!
As the story continues, so does the hesitant care and attention Dr. Oliver and Zoe begin to tentatively allow themselves to feel.  It’s definitely hair-raising for both and we are not sure if so much resistance and fear can surmount the relationship that would so obviously benefit both.  They truly are hot for each other.  Can they surmount the resistance that has them constantly thinking about immediately escaping or completely and permanently embracing each other?  Barefoot in the Sun is a very good romance worth spending pleasurable hours with.  Nice job, Roxanne St. Claire!

I've read many of Ms. St. Claire's books before and while I have enjoyed each and every one of them, this series is certainly my favorite. Even after reading the first book in the series, I was anxious to get to Zoe's story and I was not disappointed.

I loved the twists and turns throughout the book and although you know the "happily ever after" is coming, I was greatly surprised at situations that I in no way expected. I would highly recommend this series to anyone looking for great romance stories without the usual predictability.
