A hot contemporary romance from the author of the acclaimed I-Team series...

Lexi Jewell left Scarlet Springs twelve years ago, vowing never to return to the small Colorado mountain town where she grew up. Now, here she is--over thirty, out of a job and with little choice but to move back in with her eccentric father. Lexi knows it's just a matter of time before she runs into Austin Taylor, her first boyfriend and her first heartbreak. She's determined to show him she's over him--until he steps out of a pickup truck and back into her life, looking sexy as hell in his mountain ranger uniform.

As far as Austin is concerned, Lexi can turn her snazzy little convertible around and drive back to Chicago. After all, she ripped his teenage heart to pieces and turned her back on the town he loves. But from the moment he sees her again, he can't get her out of his mind. Even her smile messes with his head.

When an evening of conversation turns into something else, Lexi and Austin agree to be friends--with benefits. But as Lexi starts making plans to return to the big city, Austin realizes he'll lose her a second time unless he can show her that what she's searching for has been right here all along.

I love all of Pamela Clare's books, though I honestly didn't intend to be up until 2:30am finishing this one! I went to bed at the start of Ch 17, and I simply could not put the book down after I hit 19 or so... Things simply exploded, then fell down a Mineshaft, and I was loving every second of it. Some people, in other reviews, have complained about the "technical" aspect of how all of the Climbing and rescue services were described, but I found no issue with this. While I didn't understand all of it right off, once I did, I felt it gave me a better picture of what was going on. I enjoyed the ride so much, that I can't wait for the next book to come out—Which I believe it Hawke and Vic's book. :D

5 - "We care about our own in this town." Stars! Barely Breathing was a book of firsts for me in that it’s the start of a new series, and it was also the first book I have read by Pamela Clare. Hugely impressed are the first words that come to mind. I have seen a lot of positive feedback for this author over the years, so it was nice to read what all the fuss has been about, and I was not disappointed. Lexi Jewell and Austin Taylor are your perfect couple for a second-chance romance. As teens, they were inseparable, but college came a-calling and one left town with a view of permanence to pursue a future in the city, while the other came home and lived the life they had envisaged them both sharing. Harsh words were spoken, and young hearts were broken. But it’s pretty clear from their first meeting that that old burn of attraction is still glowing strong between them. But Lexi is only planning on being in town for a couple of months, and although Austin wants her to stay, he will take whatever he can get while she’s in town, and work on trying to keep her around for as long as possible. "Let’s just enjoy each others company-no expectations, no strings." There is a lot going on in this book, new town, new characters and a lot of back stories and past to be interspersed within the relationship rebuilding between the main pair and I think the author did really well, nothing was confusing and everyone was bought in at a pace that you remembered who they were and what their place in the story was as it progressed. "You give head with that dirty mouth?" The banter between the Search & Rescue guys was absolutely spot on, and I just loved the locale and descriptions that the author gave, it was easy to picture and I really did travel to Scarlet Springs, Colorado in my head for the time I was reading. The sexy-times between Autin and Lexi were imaginative, plentiful and at times funny and the suspense aspect played out really well too, it was just really good all-round reading for me. As I said this book was a first for me, it definitely won’t be my last. I will be waiting (im) patiently for Pamela to deliver up more books from the Colorado High Country Series, and looking to familiarize myself with some of her already published work as well. ARC generously provided via Netgalley, and it was a pleasure to provide the above honest review.

I have read all of Pamela's books so far and I am always amazed. This is no exception. I definitely had reservations about a straight contemporary romance as every other one I've read fails to do anything for me. This was an amazing read. I devoured the whole thing in one night and will be going back to savour it properly. The characters are wonderfully developed and complex and the storyline is impeccable. I am already waiting for the second book and I read this on release day. I am so excited for Pamela's new series. Definitely worth the read!!

Wonderful fast moving contemporary romance! I have read Pamela Clare's I-Team Series which I LOVE but that series is not a contemporary romance. So I wasn't sure what to expect with this new genre. What a pleasant surprise! The characters are well developed , the interactions between characters believable. There are places where I laughed right out loud and other places I was grabbing a tissue... And spots I couldn't turn the page fast enough!!! If you want a nice romantic story with some laughs and a bit of excitement this would be for you! I personally look forward to the next in the series!
