I was so impressed with this book!!! The array of emotions I experienced while reading this left me “barely breathing” at some points. This author has a way of reaching down inside of you, pulling your guts out, all the while, you’re cheering her on to keep doing it because the reading is that good! While I didn’t agree with Emma’s secretive nature, especially after the events in book one, I get why she was trying to cope alone. Emma broke my heart. She’s such a strong female lead but has no idea just how courageous she is. What would crush most people has excelled her to become a person of independence so she would no longer have to rely on anyone to survive. And though this is where her strength lies, it’s also her greatest downfall. Her independence pushes the people she loves most away and her abusive background leaves her vulnerable to allow the wrong type of people in. I just really loved this emotionally conflicted character so much! She totally got to me.
I also love Sara’s character who truly is a phenomenal best friend. Evan, Emma’s boyfriend is wonderful, understanding and an all around terrific guy. These two people are Emma’s support system, along with their families and the connection was real and superbly written. I fell in love with these two in the first book, but this go around, it felt more like a family and that’s where great writing comes in to play.
The writing for these two books was outstanding. The words flowed between the pages while the emotions poured out and flooded you. I loved all the little reveals that were sprinkled throughout this book that delved deep into Emma and her mother’s history as well as the surprises and hidden secrets with other characters, namely Jonathan and Evan.
And the ending?!? Though not as earth shattering as book one, still left me wide eyed and completely thrown, all the while screaming “NOOOOO! This can’t be happening!” To say that I loved this book is an understatement. I can’t wait til book three to find out what happens next in this touchingly distressful yet compelling story!

Reason to Breathe and this book are very emotionally charged novels. I could not put them down. The story and charcters are so gripping, I found myself crying right along with them.
I'm not sure I liked all of the decisions Emma made in this book, but I was still on her side knowing what she had been through.
These books are not light reading, and I wouldn't recommend them for a younger teen, but highly recommend them. I can't wait for the next one!

I get sooo attached to books, and I knew that I should read it....but I did; and it was awful, not because of the content, but because Rebecca Donovan makes you feel like this is your story, not just Emma's. By far my favorite book i've ever read.

I absolutely loved this book, along with the first one. I laughed and
cried with the characters. It takes an exceptional person to write such
a deep book! These books were nothing less than life changing!! I cannot
wait until Out of Breath is released! I will be very upset when this
series ends. Thumbs up to Rebecca Donovan for being brillant and
realistic! PLEASE KEEP WRITING!!

These books were all consuming. I read both of them in three days. It was hard to stop thinking about these characters even at night. I am not close to being a teen but really enjoyed them. I hope the third one comes out soon and gives us and Emma some closure.

I loved Reason to Breathe ( I read it in about a day), so, wanting to find out what happened to Emma, I immediately bought Barely Breathing. I was once again impressed and captivated by this story. Rebecca Donovan is a truly amazing author. Some of Emma's decisions in this book frustrated me (at one point, I was yelling at the book), and I absolutely hated the way the story ended. What's gonna happen with Emma and Evan?!?!?! I can't wait for the third book to come out so I can know. (BTW, they should definitely make a movie) :)

hope that book 3 has a happy ending for Emma & Evan or I'll be
pissed! They deserve to have a happy ending....with each other!

Loved this book!!!!
This was a fantastic sequel to Reason to Breathe. It left me breathless.
I just love the main characters. Once again there was such a range of
emotion. I couldn't stop thinking about them. The endings to both books
left me with a pain in my chest. Can't wait until the 3rd book.
