What a great resource for new and expectant parents! I saved hundreds of dollars on baby furniture and accessories by reading this book before I went shopping. You'll definitely save more than the cost of the book by following just some of the ideas in it. I also liked the information about shopping online. Who knew there were so many great places on the Internet to buy baby products? Every expectant and new parent should make the investment in this book - if not for the money-saving information, for the health and safety information that I didn't find anywhere else.
I purchased this book and I have 3 children ages 1,3,&5. For the first 4 1/2 years of being a mother I thought that my childrens clothes could only be washed in dreft, come to find out, it's the same as ours just more expensive for a less amount! I also liked to dress them in name brand clothes, with the web sites Leah listed I have purchased more outfits for way less money! Plus I read all about the things I wasted money on by reading what necessities they were in magazines! This is a book all parents should read if you have kids under the age of 7!
All along I've been buying what I thought was the least expensive baby formula, but after reading the 'secret' about baby formulas in 'Bargain Buys for Baby's First Year' I learned that I was actually buying the most expensive one. I've also stopped using Dreft, bottled baby water, Desitin and 'baby' sunscreens since I read this book. I was surprised to learn that many of the baby products I thought were 'must-haves' were actually useless, and in some cases, dangerous. I wish I had this book before I bought my baby equipment, but even now I'm saving money on the everyday things like diapers, formula and medicines. I'll definitly buy this for all my pregnant friends!
I think that this book should be read by everyone who is a grandmother, aunt, or just a close friend to someone that has children.I think that Leah tells it like it is and has done a great job on letting everyone know how and where to save money on children. This book isn't just for parents who are about to have their first baby,it is for parents that already have one or three children.I think this book is a great baby shower gift. It is something every new parent should read .
This book is very informative, easily readable, and witty. The author has done her homework, and pulls no punches in what she considers a bargain.
