Engler, on the other hand, shows readers how to renovate or restore an existing barn, shed, or outbuilding. Not only does this save money but it also preserves structures with potential historic significance. Engler shows how to evaluate a barn's condition and what is needed to restore it to its original use or to turn it into housing. This title's black-and-white illustrations are comparatively drab but serve their intended purpose. Neither title is essential, but comprehensive collections or those with special interests in custom homes or rural living will find them both worthwhile. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
Presents 37 fairly conventional, high-end, custom-built barn-style homes, with a brief summary of the home's design, location, and other relevant details. Color photographs, all supplied by a single company which is shamelessly promoted in the introduction, present views of the interior, exterior, and floor plan of each house. Annotation c. If you're thinking about building a timber frame home, get this book for inspiration. It's a portfolio of thirty-two of the remarkable homes built by Tony Hanslin's company, Yankee Barn Homes. Each is presented in beautiful color photographs and with floor plans. You'll get ideas for details, finishes, furnishing, decorating and landscaping your new home. You'll learn about the flexibility and durability of this ancient method of construction, and you'll see the great, barn-like soaring spaces that can only be built with timber frames. Timber frame homes are more expensive than most, but this book is a bargain, and dreams are free!
