Overview

With its comforting tone and positive outcome, this is the perfect book to prepare children for the first day of school. Includes a plastic envelope key chain for your own reassuring note from home.

Barnaby loves to have adventures, he even wants to be a world-famous explorer when he grows up. Now a brand-new challenge lies ahead: the first day of school. But Barnaby isn't quite sure he's ready. His dog, Baxter, can't come to school. Barnaby's parents can't come to school, either. This is one adventure he'll have to face on his own.

Or will he? When the first day of school arrives, Barnaby finds that a loving note from home gives him all the courage he needs, and he reaches out to make a few friend. Together they overcome their first day jitters and have a great time at school.

What a treat! As an elementary school librarian I am always looking for great "back to school" books and Barnaby Goes to School will soon be on my school's library shelf! Rouillard captures all the emotions of a young child heading off to school for the first time. The animal characters are charming yet fresh and full of personality. The clever illustrations will delight children and parents. I loved Barnaby's classmates, Freda the Frog and Joey the Giraffe - their facial expressions are marvelous. Finally, how can you not love a book that has a seal for a teacher who of course carries the class snack on her nose! This book was my introduction to Barnaby the Bear, and I can't wait to read more about him.
