Overview

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. So begins Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen's classic novel of manners and mores in early nineteenth century England. As the Bennets prepare their five grown daughters to enter into society, each shows personality traits that illuminate their future prospects as wives. Jane, the oldest, is the most demure and traditional, and Lydia, the youngest, the most headstrong and impulsive. Attention centers on haughty second-born Elizabeth, and her blossoming relationship with the dashing but aloof Fitzwilliam Darcy. Adversaries at first in the endless rounds of balls, parties, and social gatherings, they soon develop a grudging respect for one another that blossoms into romance when each comes to appreciate the tender feelings that course beneath the veneer of their propriety and reserve.

First published in 1813, Pride and Prejudice is one of the most popular tales of romance in the English language and a cornerstone of Jane Austen's reputation as one of the greatest novelists of all time. This exquisite collectible edition features an elegant bonded-leather binding, a satin-ribbon bookmark, distinctive stained edging, and decorative marbled endpapers. It's the perfect gift for book-lovers and an artful addition to any home library.

I am thrilled that B&N is now creating single titles in their leatherbound classis series. I tend to disagree with the review posted; I don't see, logically, how a single title could be as large as the other leatherbound classic books B&N has been putting out. Those are collections of several novels and this is just ONE novel. Unless you are expecting large print or something, it just doesn't make sense, the book is going to be a fraction of the size. The images of these books show lovely printed covers and does not show or say they have gold edging. They are, as listed, single works to be enjoyed, that look lovely on my shelf right next to the collected works of Poe, Austen, Shakespeare and the Narnia series.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the "ED" in the gold circle (on the front cover and spine) means? that would be awesome.:)  Just bought this book, LOVE Pride and Prejudice. Love Love Love. This book is absolutely BEAUTIFUL.  The edges of the pages are a pretty light green color, and the inside of the front and back covers have an Amazing feathery/peacock-ish design. And there is a yellow ribbon bookmarker. SO lovely.  A story this special deserves a beautiful cover like this:)

My five star review is for this edition, and this series of books, the Barnes & Noble Collectible Editions Series. I love them. But the reason I am writing this review is in response to an anonymous review which complains about "&c" on page 8. This is not a typo, but rather an acceptable abbreviation for "et cetera."

I ordered this book because I wanted a nice copy of one of my favorite classics. I guess for $10 the quality really wasn't that bad. The pages were an unpleasant pea green though. Really wasn't feeling it so I returned it- I'll keep looking for something better.

This book is my favorite and I love the leatherbound version! it's beautiful and fit's well with my other classics. You either love classic novels, or you dont. I do, and I was definetely born in the wrong time period. this book made me laugh, cry, and relate to all the characters. Jane Austen was brilliant!

This review is not of Jane Austen's work, but that of this edition/release itself.  I bought this from B&N as a gift to my girlfriend, mainly because it's a book I believe every woman should read, but also because she likes the color blue.  This cover has a nice appearance with a bright blue color and fancy lettering.  I began reading this the other day, and never have I seen such overlook on the part of the editors!  Within the first 16 pages I think I came across 5 or 6 errors in the text!  Periods before hyphens, spaces between letters in the middle of a word, the wrong letter typed in a word, changing the entire word's intended meaning, etc.  My favorite thus far occurs on the top of page 8, and reads: " Mr. Bingley was obliged to be in town the following day, and consequently unable to accept the honour of their invitation, &c." [sic]   Seriously?? "&c."?  Pathetic.  If you judge books by their covers and like pretty colors, then buy this edition.  If you prefer correct content and proofreading from a publisher, then buy another version.

I love books. Not only the stories in them but the books themselves, as many of you do. Naturally I was drawn to this leatherbound collection. I own 10 books in the series. This morning I received Pride and Prejudice, Huck Finn, and Dracula and was sadly disappointed. These 3 books do not fit in my collection as they were advertised to do. The books are smaller in demension, pages are not gold edged, covers are not illustrated. The books just have a much lower quality overall. The publisher definetly went cheap on us. I was looking forward to buying every book in the series that interested me in the future. If this is their new standard; count me out.
