It is a very pretty book...from the outside. Once you try to read it, it loses some of it's appeal. The grammar is poor. The editing is clunky. There are far too few paragraphs, some of them spanning multiple pages. There are no quotation marks to define naration vs. conversation and darn little to help you determine who is speaking. The word choice is...interestingly overdone. To be honest it sounds mostly like the first essay after a child is introduced to the thesaurus.

I have a much older copy of this book, clearly translated by a different person and just as clearly one with a far better grasp of the English language. The only reason I bought this copy is that mine was broken in half. After trying to read the Barnes and Noble edition I believe I shall duct tape the old copy back together and stick with that. This is going back to the store.

If you are a parent looking to introduce your child to this story DO NOT BUY THIS. It will only convince them that this is a painful and toothpulling experience to be waded through. If you already like the book and want a pretty copy...sitting on a shelf looking good is about all this is good for. Unless you don't have indoor plumbing. Or roll your own cigarettes. Perhaps, maybe, if you have a REALLY wobbly table.
