Bow all, before a litterary Master

I just bought this book today. Not to read, but to covet. I have read this book, at least a dozen times and I fully intend to read it a dozen more. This is by far, one of my absolute favorite books in the world. Douglas Adams has written a book that has become a cult classic. But now, I will divulge something so many (except the exceptionally astute) miss. I own two copies, the Bonded Leather Bound edition here and a regular compendium novel. As well as the post-mortum Autobiography. I have also read 3 Library editions of the same book as well as I have watched the BBC TV show (I own the dvd's) and the movie (I also own) and there is one fundamental truth about D. Adams. Each time HHG is told, it changes slightly, this has become a joke to me at least, each time I read/watch this, my personal aim is to find the discrepancies. It's like a game, find the mistakes, not to tarnish such a great work, but to note that each time it's told, it only gets better and better. Most Excelant, all around. Just remember, read it all, then read it again and again, the more you read it, the more you will enjoy it and understand the twisted humor of a great author.

Douglas Adams is a dead GOD!

Seriously, never has british humor ever gone to such heights as this. The storyline is incredibly intriguing, with all sorts of dry humor, stupidly funny overtones, and a serious underlying message, though I've yet to see anyone (myself included) figure out what that message is. If you like british humor, buy it. If not, buy it. If you want a fancy looking book to put on the mantle, buy it. All in all, this book must be purchased by everyone, and even the illiterate should be graced by the story contained within. Buy the book, or Vogons will kill you with bad Poetry.

Wish there had not been a sticker on the book...

The book is great and looks great. However, when I received this book in the mail, there was a sticker in the lower right hand corner of the front side. Unfortunately, pulling the sticker off removes some of the gold finish on the book. I received another Leatherbound Classic that was encased in plastic (with the sticker on the plastic) and thus, did not have this problem.

    I'm actually rating this a 42!

This is the coolest book ever. I am on the fifth and final book of this series. Whatever you do, don't drop it and have the corner of the humongous spine hit the floor. Anyways, the golden edged pages are awesome too. If you have the money, buy this now. If you do not, do not spend money on anything until you can buy it. Then become a hermit until you finish all 5 and the short story.

I highly recommend this, as well as all the others in this Leatherbound Classics series!

Rarely do you see these classic pieces of literature rendered with such sophisticated elegance and beauty, faithfully honoring and respecting the equally unique, creative literary material loved by generations of readers. I have been enjoying them all, and eagerly look forward to each new addition to the series.

Hopefully, the publisher (who appears to be unreachable) will keep releasing more of these fine collected works, including such classic writers as Baum, Milne, Kipling, Twain, London, Melville, Hemingway, Stoker, Shelley, as well as other poets like Virgil, Longfellow, Keats, Eliot, Hawthorne, and Blake.

Time will tell, but hope is alive. Get on board with these fantastic masterpieces of literature, and be swept away in worlds of imagination!

    more from this reviewer

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe, five complete novels and one story.

This book is beautifuly bound in leather with gold trim and gold trimmed pages complete with ribbon book mark. But the stories inside this arn't something that I would normally want to read. I love science fiction books but The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe seemed pretentious. I didn't enjoy it in the lest but it is a classic, and this is only my opinion. I know people that love this book, I'm just not one of them. Overall though this book looks beautiful in a library and Barnes and Noble has published many books that match it with the leather covers, golden detailing and gold ended pages.

    I Also Recommend:

    Sounds like West Coast U.S.

The Ultimate Hitchiker's Guide Deluxe Edition is just like a trip around California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada. My wife and I just completed just such a trip around the west where we traveled through time, space and of course other dimensions. The characters we met were quite strange but interesting just the same. We could not help but notice the similarities of the bureaucracy in the various forms of government that we had to deal with. The travel guides were all out dated or in some cases ridiculously misguiding but every place we visited was mostly harmless. Bravo to Douglas Adams for this modern classic; and to Barnes and Noble there Leatherbound Classics series.

All Hitchhiking In a nicely finished leather bound book.

It was about thirty years ago that I read the first installment of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxie. Now I can reread it and all subsequent editions. Very nice.

Another note B&N is great for home delivery.

    Great Story, Terrible Book

As other reviewers have noted, the Hitchhiker's Guide series is fantastic: I highly recommend it. However, this particular edition if (the B&N leatherbound classic) is terrible. The quality of the book is awful -- the incredibly thin paper is almost see-through, and so fragile that you're afraid to read it lest you tear the pages. There's also the issue of B&N putting their ridiculous sticker ON THE COVER OF THE BOOK! Even with the utmost care in removing it, it leaves a nasty residue that is near impossible to get off. Shame on you B&N.

    Cheaply produced gift edition.

This is packaged for gift giving and looks great when presenting it, but is cheaply made. The pages are so thin as to be torn ridiculously easily. To make it worse, Barnes and Noble uses a permanent adhesive for their stickers, that ruins the cover when removed.
If you are interested in the books, which are great, buy a different edition.

    Shrinked-wrapped copy?

Does anyone know where I can get a shrink wrapped copy so that there isn't any sticker residue on the book?

    Classic

The so-call Hitch Hikers "Trilogy" is, without a doubt, a classic and Douglas Adams was the Vonnegut of his generation. Humorous and insightful and all the while entertaining, he was gone far too soon. This is my third purchase of this volume, as the other two were loaned out never to be returned... IT"S THAT GOOD!!!

Outstanding, Funny Story. Worthy to be called, A Classic

I have read all of the books in the 'Hitchhiker's Trilogy,' and they were awesome! I really want to get this, leather-bound, gold-edged pages version of a most certainly not a leather-bound kind of book! 'That's good by the way, In my book, it needs to have existed for years, and occasionally be boring to qualify as a Leather-bound kind of book'

I promise you that you will not regret it at all.
