Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

These inexpensive leatherbound editions are Barnes & Noble exclusives, only available in our stores and on our website. Each of these novels is by any standard a classic; from Oscar Wilde's ominous The Picture of Dorian Gray and Bram Stoker's eerie Dracula to the strange human mysteries of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights and the nuanced social satire of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Attractively bound and exquisitely readable, these Barnes & Noble Bargain deluxe classics boast a price less than many, if not most paperbacks. Frugal shoppers can fetch even greater savings by purchasing the handsome boxed set, containing all six leatherbound hardcovers for just $70.00! Arguably the best buy of the month.

    more from this reviewer

Despite some differences, the new Leatherbound Classics are still worth the buy!

If you're looking at the Leatherbound books B&N has to offer, chances are you are probably an avid reader who collects books for your library.

The previous batch of Leatherbound classics (Shakespeare, Grimm Brothers, Sherlock, Poe, Austen, Wicked, Anne Rice, H.P Lovecraft, Alice in Wonderland, Narnia, Jules Verne, Jurassic Park, Dante, Homer, To Kill A Mockingbird, Arabian Nights, Hitchhiker's Guide, H.G Wells, Dickens, and a few others I may be forgetting) were an avid reader's dream - big, beautiful leatherbound covers with gold-trimmed pages and bookmark to boot. They literally are books to keep for the ages.

The new collection of Leatherbound classics are somewhat different. They are a little bit smaller (although by no means small for a hardcover - these new ones match up with my Gone With the Wind) and the pages are not gold or silver trimmed. However, do not let this deter you from purchasing some of these gorgeous books! The covers, while less ornate (and more abstract), are still beautiful and sturdy. The pages are, I must admit, better quality than some of the older leatherbound editions. They will still look great with your other leatherbounds. I just hope that Barnes and Noble continues to make more Leatherbound classics!!

    True Love Never Dies!

This is such a good book! I have read and re-read the novel numerous times and it just gets better and better everytime. The characters are so unforgettable, as is the plot. It brought back fond memories of my years in high school, when I first read the novel. The joys and the sorrows that the characters experience throughout the course of the novel was something that I could relate to.

Truly fell in love all over again

Even though I watched the Wuthering Heights movie before I read the book, I completely fell in love with the story all over again after reading the book. The characters are exceptional and the plot is one to remember for a life time.

I had forgotten how great this was...

Read this for fun in high school and was asked to read it with a friend recently. Wow, this novel is so good. I became completely engrossed in it which I haven't done with a book in a long time. Literally could not put it done. High drama, wonderfully written and truly a classic for the ages. And these leatherbound books Barnes & Noble does are gorgeous, I am addicted.
