Overview

Distance learning is an increasingly popular and practical alternative to standard classroom training for students seeking to launch careers or make career changes. This book will get them started. Updated with the latest information on educational facilities and the distance learning programs they offer, the Guide to Distance Learning lists hundreds of prominent colleges and universities, as well as accredited correspondence training centers in the United States and Canada. Schools offer degrees and certificates in a wide range of courses, including art and design, computer science, health services, journalism, philosophy, psychology, management, human resources, public affairs and administration, social work, teacher education, and many, many more. Descriptions of facilities include facts and figures on admission requirements, courses offered, tuition and fees, credits and degrees granted, mailing addresses, e-mail addresses, and fax and phone numbers. Two indexes at the back of the book provide quick reference to descriptions of distance learning centers. One index is arranged regionally by state or province—the other, according to field of study.

Great background & getting started info

This book has so much information it is almost overwhelming. If you don't know where to get started this is an excellent resource with complete contact information (full organization names, street addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and websites) for many agencies and educational information sites. If you've already done your homework and are looking for something very specific, it is a lot to wade through, but you'll probably find it in this book. As always, any book related to internet content is out of date by the time it comes to print; therefore newer schools are not listed. This book contained a lot of listings for schools offering individual courses.
