Read an Excerpt

Barry Dixon Interiors began in 2005 when I first met Barry while we photographed his beautiful home for Farrow & Ball: The Art of Color (Gibbs Smith, 2007). I was fascinated and asked to see more examples of his work. Barry explained that his sense of style began during his childhood, which was spent in countries around the world. It was from this early exposure to a variety of cultures and designs that he developed an international approach, using classical architecture and traditional interiors along with elements of modern design to create elegant and very individual interiors. I was captivated and the idea of this book was born.

This is an excellent book. Although not written by Barry Dixon himself, it does a terrific job of showcasing many of his interiors, and in great pictorial detail; it also provides a surprising amount of insight and information provided by the author. While the book focuses primarily on more grand, luxurious homes, it is filled with ideas that are suitable for homes of any scale. This is a welcome addition to my growing library of interior design books. It would also make a great gift for the novice decorator in your life.

Mr. Dixon is one of my favorite American interior designers. I have been following his career and design work for several years and I always look forward to the next publication of his work. When I heard that a book was being published I could not wait to purchase a copy to add to my growing number of books on interior design and architecture. For anyone that loves the design profession whether they are in the profession themselves or just enjoy seeing how people live I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed. As I am also an interior designer this book is a great inspiration for my work.
