More About This Textbook

Overview

The newest and ninth edition to the Bartenders' Black Book franchise adds 143 brand-new recipes that were created by bartenders, professional and laymen, around the world in the last two years. That brings the total beverage count to 3,000, more than double that of any other drink guide. All the sections have been expanded and updated, including Robert M. Parker, Jr.'s Vintage Guide and Mr. Cunningham's already vast Martini section. Of course this book still has all its classic features: an index by ingredients, in-depth mixing instructions, metric conversion tables, a list of every possible garnish, sections on hot drinks, frozen drinks, beers, ales, lagers, and "malternatives."

Save money (and lives) - drink at home

This is a must-have book for anyone who enjoys mixed drinks, but doesn't feel like spending a lot of money to go out to bars. Sometimes when I get home and feel like having a drink to have something more varied than the usual beer. And this book has been great when I have friends over to be able to plan a few drink types ahead of time.

    I Also Recommend:

the ninth edition follows in the footsteps of the other edition, only greatly improved

Being in the liquor business for thirty years, and reading the other guides, their is no comparison. This is the only bar guide to have usefull info about wine written by Robert Parker (THE WINE ADVOCATE).
THIS EDITION HAS (9th)the latest drinks. My bartender at my favorite restaurant states that most of his friends (bartenders) utilize the guide
MR CUNNINGHAM...KEEP THE UPDATED EDITIONS COMING...I WILL BE WAITING, AS WELL AS MOST OF YOUR FANS.
    A DEVOTED FAN OF YOURS

This author is telling it from a customer's point of observation

This author is telling it from a customer's point of observation and not as an experienced bartender.  I gave it one star because i liked the idea that bars should be more green and that it intends to foster a positive approach to the job of bartending.  The rest of what he says is a fiction.  If he'd the experience he claims to have he would know that bartenders have a skill called free pouring.  Even law enforcement officers know about this which is why there is a business that creates exactopours - an instrument bartenders use to assess their free pouring skills for accuracy.  Bartenders don't use a pint glass as part of the shaker equipment.  The glass the author has seen is a Boston glass that does not hold a pint of liquid, tends to be thicker and slightly heavier, tempered to withstand the vigors of cocktail making.  You don't shake and strain a White Russian.  This cocktail is built with the opportunity to layer the cream about the ice of what would otherwise have been a Black Russian (without coke).  The author is a fraud and it's shocking that he's got away with 8 editions and now his 9th without being found out.  People should write about what they know and not pretend that the many years of drinking as a customer means you know the job of the person serving you

The most useful bartender guide I have seen

It is really easy to use and to find any drink recipe a customer might ask for. Customers in my bar, all want to see it and get their own coipy. I love the wine section by Robert Parker, this is something no other Bartender Guide has. It is also lots of fun, there are over 20 recipes that start with the word SEX.

Most comprehensive bartender book . . . period!

An outstanding compilation of recepies for the proffessional or even the at home bartender. You'll find precise recepies for all your favorites but even more exciting are the scores of exotic, obscure, bizzare and fun drinks that make use of almost any ingredient imaginable. A must have for any bar.

MIXER MANUAL WITH GOOD WINE INFORMATION

This is an exhaustive and accurate bartenders manual with recipes of every type and kind. But what sets it appart from all the others is the extensive wine section by the great Robert Parker. Now with wine being a major part of the profit picture in most restaurants, this gives the beverage manager the information he/she needs to answer the questions of customers and servers.

A MUST FOR THE PROFESSIONAL OE LEARNER

I HAVE BOUGHT MOST ALL PREVIOUS EDITIONS AND FOUND THEM TO BE THE MOST INFORMATIVE ON THE MARKET, AND THE ONLY ONE CONSTANTLY UP DATED. NOW THIS 8TH EDITION IS DEFINITLY MORE IMPROVED. NO GUIDE HAS COME TO COMPARE WITH THE BARTENDER'S BLACK BOOK. THE WINE SECTION BY PARKER IS MOST VALUABLE TO ME AS I HAVE SOLD AND CONSUMED WINES FOR MOST OF MY ADULT LIFE. ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO START LEARNING ABOUT WINES SHOULD FIND THIS SECTION INVALUABLE. WILL BE WATCHING FOR THE NEXT EDITION.

    Great book

This book is great! I've looked over a lot of other bartending books and none compare to this one. It is very easy to use and complete. Has all of the latest drinks. This is the book that we use at the bar and I am also picking one up to keep for myself.

    Excellent for the Professional Bartender

This is an excellent guide for bartenders young and old, new and experienced. I have been in the bar business for about 5 years and this is the best recipe collection I have seen yet. If you are looking for a drink book, this is the one to get!

    You Need This Book!

I had to find a gift for a guy friend who was getting his first apartment and I got him this book because I love mine so much. It's got over 2000 drink recipes and a thorough cross reference in the back. You can look up drinks in a number of ways, not just by name. I highly recommend this book.
