If you every wondered why they serve hot dogs at baseball games, you will find this to be a very interesting book. It is packed with facts about how baseball is played, the field, the leagues, and much more. There is also a diagram showing all the major events in baseball history and information about some key players. This is an excellent guide for a young baseball player who needs to learn the basics of the game, the rules and the traditions. A glossary of baseball words can be found in the back and there is a "Where To Learn More" section listing books, baseball landmarks to visit, and websites to look up. Font size is large enough for beginning readers, yet the sentence structure and vocabulary clearly elucidate without talking down to the intended audience. Pages are attractively laid out with colorful photos across the spreads. However, despite a young person on each cover, the illustrations in Football and Baseball show a preponderance of older male players, from high schoolers to professionals. An avid Yankees fan, Sandra’s passion for baseball (and sports in general) stems from her grandfather, who was a professional baseball player in the 1920s and 1930s. Originally from Chehalis, Washington, Sandra lives in New York City.
