    An unique perspective about baseball

Ralph Kiner is a press agent's dream. Not only is this Hall of Famer an American icon because of his success on a baseball diamond (he led the National League in home runs for sever consecutive years, for example), but also he has developed into one of the nation's top baseball conversationalists. This former slugger turned New York Mets broadcaster can spin a yarn. Along with co-writer Danny Peary, Kiner gives a straight-forward account of his career and personal life. He tells about his struggles with Branch Rickey and his opinions about modern day players such as Pete Rose and Barry Bonds. He also allows us to peek behind the curtains of his personal life, including his courtship of Hollywood starlets such as Janet Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor. This is a fact-filled book written in a breezy style that is a 'must read' for baseball fans everywhere.
