Editorial Reviews

Wes Lukowsky
Sports literature is getting as bad a case of "sequelitis" as Hollywood. But what holds for the silver screen also holds for the printed page: sometimes sequels are a good thing. This little book is a case in point. Nelson, who compiled "Baseball's Greatest Insults" (1984) a few years back, reharvests baseball's fertile fields for more nasties. In a collection of this kind, all the author is required to do is provide a context for the remark and deliver it so it's the punch line to a little joke. Nelson is a master. A couple of favorites: Cub soup? "Two sips and you choke"; "Being named manager of Seattle is like being named head chef at McDonald's." Guaranteed fun for baseball fans.
