In Basher's totally hip and quirky style, readers are introduced to the amazing research that is revolutionizing physics! From the pioneering experiments taking place in the Hadron Collider to NASAs deep-space exploration, Basher Science: Extreme Physics highlights the realm of miniscule things that was discovered in the early 1900s by scientists who were on the hunt for teeny-tiny parts of matter, the bits from which all larger things are made. This wild, uncertain world is bursting with crazy characters you're about to meet-you're gonna love them!

Gr 4–8—This addition to the vivid and engaging series opens with a short introduction that cites "supersmart" physicist Erwin Schrödinger. The book is arranged in four sections: "Quantum Folk" (information about the atom, wave particle duality, Schrödinger's Cat, etc.), "Particle Posse" ("the building blocks of matter"), "Fundamental Forces" (that is, weak force, strong force, electromagnetic force, gravity), and "Quantum Weirdness" (for example, quantum technology). Pages feature a short description written from the point of view of the topic at hand, such as dark matter, accompanied by three bullet points at the beginning and at the conclusion of an entry, providing additional basic facts. The writing is chatty and accessible. A digitally rendered anthropomorphic image complements the selection. The appealing illustrations and fun, engaging explanations will make this title a hit with students.—Maren Ostergard, King County Library System, Issaquah, WA

Basher books has done it again. I am an elementary school librarian and I can't keep their books on our shelf, they fly out of our library like hot cakes! Extreme Physics is a nice companion to their Physics book. Who would ever think that books on Physics, Chemistry,Biology, the Elements, Grammar , etc. would be in such high demand. Be sure to check the suggested age range on the back of their books. Readers are introduced to the basics of Extreme Physics and the artwork is helpful to retain the information presented. I am hoping they will produce a DVD that can be shown in schools soon. Kids just love these books!
