Description: Persistent development in the neurosciences triggers constant updates in general study books. Since publication of the first edition of this one in 1997, many changes have occurred in the field, leading to a better understanding of diseases such as Parkinson's, degenerative disorders, and stroke. A second edition is, therefore, justified.
Purpose: The purpose is to describe in detail clinically oriented aspects of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology to better understand neurological and neurosurgical diseases. Those are very important aspects fully met by the authors.
Audience: Medical and other health professions students are the main audience for this book.
Features: Three authors write 27 chapters in this book. Like any other neuroscience review, this one addresses different levels of the nervous system, neuronal and glial organization, synaptic connections, blood supply, and genetics. What makes it different from other similar books, and also from its first edition, are the interactive online resources and better clinical correlation. In current board testing materials, clinical correlation is one of the most encountered areas. This is a resource for medical and other health sciences students.
Assessment: This is an excellent resource for medical and other health professions students.
