The bassist leads a quartet comprised of guitarist Kenny Burrell, pianist Hank Jones, and drummer Art Taylor through a selection of standards, including "Yesterdays," "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To," and "Dear Old Stockholm," as well as a handful of contemporary jazz numbers and originals. There's a relaxed, friendly atmosphere to the music, both in its tone and in the fact that Chambers lets Jones and Burrell have some time in the spotlight. Paul Chambers - Bass On Top

Kenny Burrell, Hank Jones, Paul Chambers, and Art Taylor.
A classic recording without horns, more of a Nat King Cole quartet but featuring Burrell's warm toned guitar, and of course Paul's bowed bass. As a band leader Chamber's doesn't hog the show but puts the group and the music at the forefront. The song selection was excellent.

This version of Dear Old Stockholm is my favorite and makes me wonder why this tune isn't better known or played more. The Theme is so catchy that it's hard to get out of your head. I am replacing my records and had been hoping for this to come available on CD for a long time.

For bassist this is a must have recording, for everyone else it is a solid edition to your listening collection. This stands up to concentrated listening but would work equally well as background music. (although that's a waste and insult to the artistry of these fine musicians.)
