Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The basset is a friendly dog that makes a good pet. He is a smart dog but can be very stubborn. The basset is a good hunting dog and his short legs allow him to get close to the ground to better smell out the scent. While a basset has a short, smooth coat, his skin allows for many wrinkles. Although he is a short dog he can weigh up to 50 pounds. His ears often drag the ground which help stir up scents. Taking care of a basset hound is not hard. He does not need much exercise. He also doesn't need a bath very often but still needs to be brushed so his coat is clean and dry. His ears do need special care because they can become easily infected. This dog needs to be fed about the same time everyday. He should not be overfed because he could become fat, and being overweight is bad for his back and legs. Because the basset has strong jaws, he should have some toys or bones to chew on. The basset likes a quiet place to rest. This informative book also has a glossary and a page listing web sites with more information about dogs. The book is one in the series of "Dog Set IV." The author has included many wonderful pictures of this breed.
