Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - David Cohen
Bat Boy, the award-winning off-Broadway musical, swooped into New York this spring after a sold-out Los Angeles run and immediately made the theater season soar. This tongue-in-cheek gothic morality tale about a feral creature with Vulcan ears and fangs -- half boy, half vampire bat -- might be the first musical comedy to be inspired by a dubious tabloid story. Composer Laurence O'Keefe's clever "spoofical" is a roaring crowd-pleaser that affectionately and imaginatively sends up decades of Broadway clichés while it delights with some of the wittiest lyrics in years. An exceptional ensemble, headed by Kaitlin Hopkins and Deven May, who astonishes as the hapless Bat Boy, shines on this terrific cast recording. Featuring two dozen songs -- in styles ranging from country to gospel and rock to rap, and including "Children, Children," "Let Me Walk Among You," "A Home for You," the showstopper "Three Bedroom House," and the hysterical My Fair Lady parody "Show You a Thing or Two" -- Bat Boy is a fiendishly entertaining fantasia.

    Hold Me Forever Bat Boy!!!

My school did this as our Spring Musical last year, after seeing it for the first time I knew that I had to have the soundtrack. I love this musical, the story is clever and the music is unforgetable! Deven May IS Bat Boy/Edgar, he is absolutely amazing, Kerry Butler's voice is so adorable and fits well with the character of Shelley, Kaitlin Hopkins is wonderful as Meredith, and Sean McCourt is unbelievable as Dr. Parker. My favorite songs include: Hold Me Bat Boy, Whatcha Wanna Do?, A Home for You, Dance with Me Darling, Show You a Thing or Two, Comfort and Joy, Three Bedroom House, Children Children, Inside Your Heart, Apology to a Cow, and Finale. I've now added Bat Boy to my list of favorite musicals of ALL TIME and believe me it's very high on the list! I highly recommend buying this soundtrack or suggest it as an idea for a school musical... believe me it's fabulous, and undoubtably hilarious! GO OUT AND BUY IT... YOUR BAT BOY IS WAITING!

    Makes a Great School Play

I never saw the show, but my school is doing it for our Fall Play. When I first heard the music, I knew we'd have a hit. There's music in it for everyone, like white-boy rap, rock and roll, plus show-tune music. This is a MUST for any theater fans.

    Big Fan!

Bat Boy is the best play I have seen all year. Not only the plot line is great but the music had me dancing in my seat! If you saw it in Boston or New York then you will definatly want to buy the cd. I listen to it every day!

    Best Musical Ever

Bat Boy: The Musical has been called a satire, a spoof, and even a farce. Such titles are undeserved. Songs such as Children, Children and Show You a Thing or Two seem to poke at other musicals, (The Lion King and My Fair Lady), but they are not parodies. The music is amazing and the story is wrenching. If Bat Boy is being performed in your area, GO SEE IT! If it's not, buy the soundtrack. Better yet - do both! My favorite tracks include: Comfort and Joy, Hold Me Bat Boy, Inside Your Heart, Apology to a Cow, and Whatcha Wanna Do. Hell, I love 'em all! Hold Your Bat Boy!

Have listened a million times, will never get sick of it!

This whole musical sounds like a big joke, but the soundtrack has become one of my most played CDs along w/Phantom of the Opera and Hairspray. It's a mix of Rocky Horror Picture Show, Little Shop of Horrors, and just a bit of Grease thrown in for good measure. Buy it, I guarantee you'll love it!
