Paul Dini is one of the seminal modern Batman writers, having scribed several episodes of the classic Animated Series. Any tale of the caped crusader penned by his hand is bound to be entertaining at the least. In "Heart of Hush" Dini tackles the Hush villain, a favorite character for some and a hollow excuse for Jim Lee to draw the Batman Universe for others. Whatever your thoughts on the character, Dini delivers a satisfying tale here, full of action but driven by the love between Batman and Catwoman. Nightwing, Robin, Scarecrow, and Joker also make appearances. It is pointed out frequently that despite his popularity, Batman has never had a primary love interest. By story's end, there is no doubt that Selena Kyle is Bruce's true soulmate.

This story sees the return of Hush after a run-in with the Joker. With the help of a few other villains Hush plans to take what Joker did to him up a notch and use it against Batman and his allies. This also serves as a look back at Tommy Elliot's childhood to show what events lead him to this life of crime. By the end we've seen Hush undergo a large transformation from his first appearance and continues to show why Batman has the best rogues gallery in comics.
