After being almost completely destroyed in her last battle in Volume 5 of Battle Angel Alita, she is slowly dying. She is offered a deal by a resident of Tiphares. In return for her life, she will become an agent of Tiphares, known as the 'Tuned', to be given full support in weaponry and intelligence as she performs missions down on the world's surface. Alita agrees, mainly because her first mission is to hunt down Desty Nova, who just happens to have Dr. Ido with him. Alita is sent as part of a force guarding a nuclear-powered train that has been terrorized by a ruthless gang right out of Road Warrior, known as Barjack. Along for the ride is a man known as Figure Four, who just might capture Alita's heart in the end. Volume 6 of Battle Angel Alita is a welcome return to the balance of action, humor, and emotional depth that had been lacking in Volumes 3-5. You really care for the characters and it's sad to see that Alita fights now more for the equivalent of a drunken high that will make her forget her past. At one point in this series, she fought so that she WOULD remember her past. Ever since the human she was in love with died, she's never been the same. It will be nice to see where this series ends up, and more important, where Alita ends up. As usual, the art here is classic and even the action sequences are always easy to follow. Highly recommended.
