Across the Sea, Over the Ramparts of the Sun and Deep into the Lands of Terror

Eight years ago I was fortunate enough to pick up the novel Bazil Broketail, partly by luck and partly because the extraordinary cover art caught my attention. I was immediately fascinated by the adventures of the Broketail dragon and his boy as they joined the Marneri 109th Dragon Corps and ventured off to throw down the evil Doom of Tummuz Orgmeen, set up by the all powerful masters of Padmasa. Battledragon, the fourth novel in Rowley¿s series, takes our friends Bazil, Relkin and the Purple Green Dragon, on a new adventure of tremendous scope as they set sail across the seas, deep into the heart of the dark southern continent Eigo and the fabled Lands of Terror. Battledragon is particularly wonderful, in that, it develops character relationships more strongly than some of Rowley¿s other books have. Although Battledragon is not teaming with the action of its predecessor, Dragons at War, it provides a different type of adventure, wonderment and awe as the characters set about their campaign to stop the masters of Padmasa from resurrecting ¿He Who Must,¿ the maniacal prophet of a past age, and bringing about weapons of destruction so terrifying that the fate of the world may lie in the balance. In this installment, character is finally given to the masters as their leader Heruta Skash Gzug manipulates and works to intensify the madness that spews forth from Eigo¿s Isle of the Bone. Overall, Christopher Rowley has crafted another winner of a story. Battledragon is exciting, extremely comical and endearing all throughout and I can not wait to read the continuing saga of those in the Argonath and beyond.
