    I Also Recommend:

    a good continuation

This was also a good background to the Heresy. It shows how some of the space marines of the thousand sons (Mhotep) and the world eaters (skraal) were betrayed by their own legions. Their two stories were compelling. There was terrific heroism on both of their parts.
As I said in a review of Legion, for those who hated the last books, there is more to the Heresy then just Horus and the battle for Terra. It is a large story that needs a degree of patience to unfold and it will be rewarding.

    I Also Recommend:

    It was ok

The book was ok and idk why everyone saying that it had nothing to do with the Horus heresy because this was one of the battles Horus planned out before the battle for Terra. plus this takes place right after the book Fulgrim.

    come on already

...i havnt bought the book yet but after reading these reviews i might not. how disapointing. another hyped HH book that has nothing to do with the epic tale of the heresy. Dan Abnett started what i thought was going to be the most amazing series to come out of the black library. it seems theyve lost sight of what the readers really want. Mr. Abnett should have been the sole author of the entire series. lets see those titans now.

    Where is the Horus Heresy???

Dissapointing, for sure. I am waiting for the Horus Heresy to get back on track... Really want to find out what happens with Horus vs. Emperor. But overall, the last few books in this serious have been dissapointingly off topic... my old English A teacher would have make the paper bleed with notes on inorganization and inconsistency, not to mention story-line...

it seems as if the arthors hands are tied

Again just like the previous 2 books 'Legion' and 'The descent of angels' that this book would of been an ok side story. But following the Horus Heresy like i thought the book series was doing fails miserably. it was my impression that this book would detail the battle of Calth but it barely mentions it. I hope and pray that the series gets back on track. I've bought 3 books in a row and i cant take them back which is a total rip off. My advice is to not buy this book if like me you want the Horus heresy story to unfold. Because in this book you get no such story. I'm an avid reader of many many books and i actually caught my self skipping pages, it was so boring. i expected more from Ben Counter. i'm going to leave a review on the black library page which you'll never see because they don't let bad reviews in. They need to pick up the story and take us along like we all wanted. Scrub these side story's and give us an epic that the story truly is.

    Not again...

I have to say, Ben Counter isn't my favorite Black Library author. I'm not as harsh as the previous reviewer, but I really want the damn story to get back on track. Legion and Decent of Angels didn't seem to have squat to do with the Horus Heresy storyline, which was disappointing. I'm hoping it's a big setup where some dark secret/plot develops in a future book where you'll miss the point if you didn't read the crappy ones...I'm not holding my breath though. I'm ready for the Titans to drop on Holy Terra, knowwhaddamean?
