Overview

"A most impressive example of understatement--in science fiction ... keeps the major components of the story within the bounds of the human. Quite an accomplishment in view of the cosmic nature of the plot!" that's how Galaxy Magazine describes the dazzling cosmic science fiction of pulp master Edmond Hamilton. A husband and wife find themselves at odds with each other when they become the center of a whirlpool of galactic intrigue in this top-of-form and very adroit novel containing Hamilton's classic blend of pulp space opera and adult romance. For two hundred years Earth's power and prestige as the center of galactic government has been increasingly eclipsed by that of her growing colonies in far distant star clusters. Now the weakened mother world, celebrating the anniversary of the first space flight, has become a helpless pawn in a struggle between the scheming Orion cluster and the other clusters it hopes to conquer. Enter Jay Birrel, captain of a squadron of space ships in from the cluster Lyra for the celebration, and his brilliant wife Lyllin, whose exotic looks betray her birth on distant Vega. Jay is of Terrestrial descent, and a visit to the ancient family homestead earns him friends and stirs a sense of belonging to the mother world he never knew he possessed. Jay might even want to live here. But the neighbors aren't as quick to cotton to the alien looking Lyllin, and the pair soon find themselves at odds over their feelings about the old homestead and the old home planet. Then Orion strikes, and before he can work things out with Lyllin, Jay finds himself called to duty, with only hours to prepare for an epic battle between his own cluster and the aggressor--with theindependence of Terra as the prize. Here is a masterful space epic with a human heart and sensibility such as only Jules Verne Prize winner Edmond Hamilton could write. "Roistering adventure. Beautiful heroines. Color and imagery. A final world-smashing slug-fest. Good fun!"--Analog/Astounding

    Starlines&starfChapter One&starf "Blurred"

I should have known better. I should have listened to Jacen. But I didn't. Now, I'm struggling for breath & wondering if I'll even see Jacen again. Okay. Let me stop right here & back up so you'll understand. TWO MONTHS EARLIER I smile at the air then turn to the shadowy corner behind me. "I wasn't expecting you yet." I say, smiling. "That's the whole point of surprise. To catch someone off their guard." A handsome boy my age, 24, steps fom the corner. His bown eyes are sparkling & his short brown hair is slightly ruffled. He takes me in his arms & kisses me long & slow. When we break apart I catch my breath & say, "Glad to see you too." I smile & hug him. "Oh Jacen, you have no idea how much I missed you." He smiles. "You're getting better at sensing others through the Force." "Thanks." I say, blushing. I look up at him, trying to hide a mischevious grin. "I learned from the best." He smiles again. Suddenly, I sense someone coming. Its very faint, he cant sense me yet, but I can sense him. "Jacen, Master Skywalker is coming!" He gives me a quick kiss & leaves through a hidden door. The door opens & Luke Skywalker, Grand Master of the Jedi Order, steps in. I'm so surprised i just barely remember to bow. "Master Skywalker, what brings you here so suddenly?" Stang. I must be the most inquisitive Jedi Knight in the whole galaxy. He smiles. Then he becomes serious. I motion to the durasteel chairs & coffee table nearby. He sits down & begins to speak. "Ben is missing." He begins. "And yo want me to help look for him." I finish. He nods. "Yes." "I'll gladly help. It wont be any trouble at all." He looks relieved. "Thank you. I'll by in the morning to get you." "See you then." He leaves. When I can't sense him anymore I say, "you an come out now." Jacen steps out. "I've got a bad feeling about this. You shouldn't have agreed." I'm shocked. "Jacen!!" I exclaim reproachfully. "Master Skywalker is your uncle & Ben is your cousin. You should be as worried about him as Master Skywalker, especially since Mara's killer is still on the loose." He smiles. I frown, sensing four more people, three of them Jedis. "Your parents, sister & Zekk are coming." "It's about time for me to leave any way." We share one last kiss. As soon as he is out of sight, the door opens. Han & Leia step in followed by Jaina & Zekk. Suddenly, i hear a sound. I turn in time to see the big duraplast window shattered by a small black object. There is a danger tingle in the Force, then everything explodes. I faintly see a familiar face leer at me. Then everything goes black.&star hope you like. Please comment. Next chapter at 'war' res one or two&starSA

    Astrid Starlia

She flies in in a ship called the Century Hawk. Her brown cape streams out from behind her and her waist long blonde braid thuds against her back. Using the Force she executes an almost perfect Jedi Flip. She is wearing tight black pants and a tight black long sleeve shirt. An empty brown belt hangs loosely around her waist. Only a money bag clinks against her hip. She is a very powerful youngling born with mesterious Foresight Force and an inborn ability to fight and pilot a starship. Her mentor was frozen by bounty hunters. He hangs in Jabbas presence just like Han Solo did. She is trying to restore her life through the Jedi Order.
