Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
Offering highlights from the second Night at the Museum movie, single photo shots from the film are accompanied by simple text that explains the picture. Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) is introduced as the owner of his own company who had previously been a guard at the Museum of Natural History in New York City. When he got the news that the museum was going modern and sending most of its statues into storage at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C., he decided to try to rescue his friends from becoming inert pieces of wax and stone that would be unable to come to life in the night. Larry sneaked into the Smithsonian and discovered that the magic tablet was also in the storage area. Kahmunrah (Hank Azaria), ruler of the Egyptian warriors, came to life and wanted to seize the magic tablet for himself. He was joined by some other historic "bad guys." Larry found Attila the Hun (Patrick Gallager), Sacajawea (Mizuo Peck) and some other "good guys" including Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams) to help him in the ensuing battle. This is classified as a Level 2 beginning reader with a notation that emerging readers would need help. Many of the names and some of the words are too difficult for young children to decipher on their own. It might be of interest to those who have seen the movies. It is in the "I Can Read" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
