Overview

Returning Iraq war veteran Ray McKenna struggles with battle scars that can only be healed by love.

Ray McKenna returns from the war in Iraq to find that she has attained unwanted celebrity status back home. As the only surviving American soldier of a well-publicized hostage crisis, she is the center of attention at a time when all she wants is solitude. Struggling to overcome the fear and anxiety that plague her, she relies on her psychiatric therapy dog Jagger to help her through the vicious symptoms of PTSD.

Veterinarian Dr. Carly Warner hasn't yet figured out how to open her heart to the possibility of falling in love again after the death of her longtime partner. When Ray McKenna walks into the North Coast Veterinary Clinic with Jagger, she and Carly begin a friendship that takes them both by surprise. Brought together by their shared love of dogs, Ray and Carly discover that they are both capable of moving forward, if only they are brave enough to try.

Meet the Author

Born in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan, Meghan O'Brien relocated to Windsor, California in October 2005. As a recent transplant, she's enjoying the moderate weather and gorgeous scenery of the Bay Area. Meghan lives with her partner Angie, their two-year-old son, three cats, and three dogs. Yes, it can be just as chaotic as it sounds.

Meghan works as a web developer for a major corporation, but her real passion is writing. From her humble beginnings creating numerous "books" out of construction paper and crayons as soon as she learned to write, to her two published novels and various anthology contributions in the past five years, writing is what makes her feel most complete.

Loved this book. Characters were great and the emotions were there. Great read. Still rereading parts I love.

One of the better books I've read in some time. Read it in a few hours. I loved the detail the author put into the story and especially about PTSD, for me it seemed very life like and believable. Most times authors give their character something that makes them seem broken or at the very least not completely whole and then forget all about the issue once the characters are together. This is one of the few times where that wasn't an issue. Really loved this book.

I loved reading this book so much that I could barely put it down until I had reached the end. Ray's battle with PTSD was spot on and the relationship with Carly developed slowly, but not overly so. It had just enough tension/angst to keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Also loved the role that the dogs played throughout the story in bringing Ray and Carly together and as true each of their best friends. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to read about the effects of war, and PTSD, or anybody who just wants to read a good romance!

This was a pleasant lesbian romance featuring the lead characters Ray and Carly, and how PTSD affects their relatonship. The overall story was good but some of the dialog was a little soft and it seemed that some comments were repetitive, but this still was a quick and enjoyable read.

This is a very interesting story about PTSD and some of the problems that our veterns face as well as a very good love story. You could almost see the pain that Ray McKenna was in and her struggle to come to terms with her fillings for Dr.Warner. I strongly recommend this to the romance readers among us as well as dog lovers
