I'm not a John Mayer fan, by any means. There is something about his previous albums and single that I just never liked. When he released this single Heartbreak Warfare I was pleasantly surprised. The song was so moving to me that I just had to buy the cd. After only listening to the cd once, I was hooked. I can't believe that I am actually recommending a John Mayer album to other people! Despite my previous aversion to his music, I can say that his album Battle Studies has become one of my favorites.

I am a new John Mayer fan. My son introduded me to his music, sadly my son has passed away. When I hear Mayer's music, it gives me such great memories of my dear son. My family and 5 of my son's buddies went to see Mayer in concert on his Battle Studies tour. It was fantastic, you will love EVERY song. My 11 year old daughter even likes his CD. It will please all Mayer fans of ALL ages!!! I love the lyrics included so I can sing along too. I especially like the first track, the song he opens with at his concert. It sets the mood for the concert and the CD. I like the jazzy songs too. This is a CD perfect for background music when you have a gathering at your home. Enjoy!

This is his best work yet...every song tells a story anyone can relate to. In listening to this CD for the first time I "felt" him and everything he ws saying. Very emotional and real, nothing immature or shallow here! Love him!

John Mayer is a brilliant musician but this CD is too subdued for me. I
keep listening to it and as I do I like it more. My expectations were
different for this.

This guy gets better and better. He has assembled a great set of musicians; written some great songs, and done justice to songs not his own. I am a long time fan, love his blues slant and look forward to more.

Although this particular album isn't as solid as the earlier stuff, I still think it has the John Mayer pop a true fan looks for.
I think most people rate albums according to the number of tunes they actually listen to overall - and once again, there isn't a song on this CD I don't enjoy.
This is a great Cd. John Mayer is such a good singer and performer. He's sentual, makes it very easy to fall in love with this guy!! Put's you in "the mood" if you know what I mean;). I would recomend all his Cd's, I love all of his songs, especially the ones in concert!! My favorite song on this one is Heartbreak Warfare, and of course Who Say's. Ladies, you'll love him.

Worse effort yet. Why did he waste his time? Other efforts by Mayer were great. But I waste my money on this one.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I'd been waiting for what seemed like forever for John Mayer's next solo (not live) CD to come out after Continuum and was somewhat disappointed by Battle Studies, to be honest. His signature sound and guitar solos are there but it seems somewhat redundant. I find that the only really remarkable track is "Assassin" which I really do enjoy but other than that I find myself zoning out through the CD until it's over when I then think to myself "Oh. That's it?" I loved Continuum because I felt like it included a good mix of lyrical material but Battle Studies is pretty much the same song over 10 times (save the cover of Crossroads, which I like as well but I can't give him too much credit as it is a cover, after all).
Maybe I'm being a little harsh as I've listened to it only a handful of times but I can't really see myself finding it to be fantastic all of a sudden. It's John Mayer so it's really talented guitar-playing and sweet, lilting melodies but it's been done before.
