Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This early reader has clear concise text, pictures of real kids, and a pointed moral message telling children exactly how good friends should act. The book is a good resource for children learning how to interact in a social environment, and it also teaches them to read. Included are an index and a glossary of words. There is also a suggested reading list. This is a good introduction for children to the use of a book for research and finding a specific topic or definition. 2003, Compass Point Books/Spyglass Book,

K-Gr 1-These easy-to-read books introduce some basic social concepts. Traits of a good friend include caring, listening, sharing, honesty, respect, and helping, while a good sport practices fair play, follows rules and safety guidelines, and exhibits manners in both winning and losing situations. In each title a behavior is described in a few sentences on one page opposite a full-page color photo depicting children and adults illustrating the concept. Each title includes a six-word glossary, three suggestions for additional books on related topics, two Web sites, and a brief, unnecessary index. These offerings will be most useful in classroom collections or for counselors, teachers, and coaches.-Sandra Welzenbach, Villarreal Elementary School, San Antonio, TX Copyright 2003 Cahners Business Information.
