Overview

Her first marriage didn't work out, but that isn't going to stop Alicia Black, the privileged daughter of the charismatic Reverend Curtis Black, from getting what she wants.

Alicia can't believe her good fortune. God has heeded her prayers, blessing her with the perfect second husband, Pastor JT Valentine, a handsome, dynamic man of the cloth with his own large congregation, just like her father.

Unfortunately, Alicia doesn't understand how much like Curtis her new husband truly is. JT has been sneaking around town with other women—and he only married her to get close to her father's money and fame. But while Alicia is blinded by love, her dad certainly isn't. After all, it takes one to know one—and who better to see into the darkness of a sinner's heart than Curtis Black?

Only a miracle can save the day. But God acts in mysterious ways, and soon Alicia will have to face some very crucial and life-changing decisions. This time, she's got to be careful what she prays for. . . .

Editorial Reviews

Rockford Register Star
“Compelling, dishy.”
Library Journal
In this sequel to The Best of Everything, Roby continues to focus on Alicia, the daughter of Rev. Curtis Black, who bounces back after a devastatingly humiliating divorce. Seemingly given a second chance at love, Alicia marries JT Valentine, a charismatic, handsome reverend who has patterned himself after every aspect of Curtis Black's life, literally. JT treats Alicia like a queen, lavishing her with expensive gifts and giving her a beautiful home, and Alicia can't believe her good fortune. Finally, she has everything she has always dreamed of having, but is her life too perfect? VERDICT Although Roby's characters show some growth in this latest addition to the Black family saga, the story is all too familiar and predictable. This novel will appeal to readers of romantic suspense and Christian fiction and Roby's die-hard fans. [See Prepub Alert, LJ 10/15/09.]—Carol Johnson, Cleveland P.L.

Kimberly is an awesome writer. Everyone of her books I've ever read has been awesome. Once I start reading them, I can't put them down. "Be Careful What You Pray For", once you read the book, the title stands for itself. Go head Kimberly, I applaud you for keeping the story coming on Curtis & Alicia, book after book, story after story. After reading the books, me & my girlfrieds always discuss the books & then we're wondering what's going to be next. Thanks for your writings.

Kimberla Lawson Roby has done it again...................

I read this book in 2 days, and that's with a full and part-time job. I just couldn't put it down. Once again Alicia get caught up in materials things. She's always look for what a man can do for her, however if she had of listen to her father, she wouldn't had to go through what she went through. She thought she had a good husband, and she also thought she Carmen was a friend. I highly recommend this book, and for first time readers of Mrs. Roby, you need to start with Casting The First Stone.

Thia This book kept me on my toes.

I thought Rev. Curtis Black was a schemer but Pastor J.T. Valentine takes scheming to a whole new level. This book was a page turner to the very end.

WHAT YOU GET, MAY NOT BE WHAT YOU WANT!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT A GREAT STORY. MRS ROBY HAS DONE THE DANG THING WITH THIS ONE. IT IS A MUST READ NOT ONLY FOR THOSE YOUNG LADIES WHO ARE LOOKING TO GET MARRIED, BUT ALSO FOR YOUNG LADIES THAT ARE HOPING AND PRAYING FOR A PREACHER OR PASTOR. WHAT LOOKS GOOD ON THE OUTSIDE AND ON THE SURFACE CAN REALLY SURPRISE YOU BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. ALICIA BLACK, THE DAUGHTER OF A VERY SUCCESSFUL PASTOR KNOWS ALL TOO WELL, THE DEALINGS AND GOING ONS OF SOME PASTORS. YET STILL SHE WANTED THE PASTOR JT VALENTINE AND ALL THE TROUBLE AND HEARTACHE THAT CAME ALONG WITH HIM. ALICIA FINALLY REALIZES THAT HER FIRST HUSBAND IS THE MAN THAT SHE SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH. IT GOES TO SHOW YOU THAT THE OLD SAYING IS TRUE, THE GRASS IS NOT ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE. WE ALL SHOULD BE CAREFUL WHAT WE PRAY AND ASK FOR, BECAUSE WE MAY JUST GET IT.

This book was good. It was definitely a page tuner. I started the series on book #5 and worked my way to this one. It was good but at some points it took too long to get to the juice. But when the juice came it was JUICY!!! I am glad that I found Kimberla because she is truly a gifted writer and she knows how to please her audience.

    as always, a great read

ive read all of the previous rev. black books and loved them all ..this one i didnt think was as good as the rest reason being it was pretty predictable bc jt basically did evertyhing her dad did but magnified by 1000. however i still enjoyed reading it.this woman is a very talented writer her stories draw you in and even with all the mayhem in the charachters lives, the stories are still easy to follow. i never find myself being like ' wait, what?' it all just flows! ive read her other book "here and now" , which isnt apart of the series, and am definatly going read all her books!

    Absolutely the best!!!!!!

I truly enjoyed this book it was definitely a page turner. Alicia has matured alot compared to book #7. JT Valentine was a very arrogant man and truly only cared about himself. Kimberla, you did excellent job. Looking forward to book #8 .

It was a very good heading, caught your eye and made you wonder what she asked for.

The heading by it self makes you wonder what was it she prayed for this time. If you read her last book you should remember that she had it all to begin with, she just didn't appreciate it. I liked that fact that she used her head to bring it all to a head. Her actions was one I often have in the years have practiced myself....DON'T GET MAD..GET EVEN!!

    I Also Recommend:

Remember, Be Careful What You Pray For

This title is not just a catchy phrase. It is oh such a true statement. I advise women to read this before considering marrying someone you don't really know.

Reverend JT Valentine was the love of Alicia's life. Despite her father's warnings, she just had to marry him.

Alicia, with the help of her dad gets her first book published. The book was to profit her, but guess who had a plan to deviate the fame?

A preacher holds a very high position. You must also know that Preachers are human beings. They may not be living what they are preaching. You as the parishioner, the wife to be needs to know how to PRAY for the right thing.

Alicia is the daughter of a Preacher. She has seen her father, the Reverend Curtis black in more scandalous affairs that she would care to admit. One almost cost him his life, and one that cost him his marriage to Alicia's mother.

After her first failed marriage, she just knew that she had found Mr. Right or should I say Reverend Right?

But little did he know, he was married to the Reverend Curtis Black's daughter. If you knew Pastor Curtis Black, you knew that Alicia is "his baby girl."
