Overview

With a colony of orthodox Rasta adherents at his call and a reputation for verbal attacks on fans and foes alike, the young deejay Sizzla is reggae's most controversial figure. His fiery incantations smolder with Rastafarian reasoning and righteous rage BE I STRONG sets Sizzla's incendiary declamations to majestic dancehall rhythms, courtesy of producer Phillip "Fattis" Burrell and an assemblage of Jamaica's finest musicians, including drummer Sly Dunbar and saxophonist Dean Frasier. On the title cut, Sizzla's freestyle spiritual pronouncements are paired with a funky reggae party groove, the same rhythm utilized on "The Vibes," his duet with dancehall prophet (and equally combustible superstar) Capleton. Sizzla's vocal volatility is particularly effective on the spiritually provocative "Get Lively" and the empowering "Live Longer," both displaying a zealous commitment to uplifting dancehall's lyrical standards while taking a hard line on righteous living and faith.

All Music Guide - Rosalind Cummings-Yeates
Sizzla continues to shake things up with his third release, Be I Strong. This offering erupts with the DJ's volcanic delivery and scorching political lyrics. The hard-driving opening track, "Men and People," sets the tone by proclaiming, "Babylon your judgement a come right away." His powerful presence is such that you dare not question this or any of the other keen observations on this album. Backed by reggae legends such as Sly Dunbar on drums and Earl "Chinna" Smith on guitar, Sizzla's aim is near-perfect.
