BE WERE. Southern Shifters. Eliza Gayle Review from Jeannie Zelo

BE WERE. Southern Shifters. Eliza Gayle
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
I've read a few of Eliza's books now, and they are definitely on the racy side of sexy, plenty of hot, erotic sex, which is both well written and fits the storyline. This book was no exception....Wow!
I was a little confused when it began thinking I’d read it before, but on checking found its a continuation of the storyline from the novella A White Cougar Xmas, and I’d wondered what happened to Nikki at the end of that. So was a good start. We meet characters from the earlier Southern Shifters books, and I like the way the story begins to enlarge, with a simple, concluded plot in this one ( no cliffhangers- hurrah) but leading, and adding to, an overall story arc to the series as a whole.
I feel with each book we're getting to know more about the characters, and understand their pasts and how that impacts on current actions. Certainly Dean and his brother have had a first very close, then problematic past, and they need to put that aside and work together here. Nikki has always been very alone and secretive about her origins, we learn why here, and Dean has his work cut out in getting her to trust him.
Once again a shortish read at 175 pages for £1.93, but though its not long the pages are densely packed, and its a complete, well written story, with lots of sensuality which fits the storyline, not ones of those books where the story is just a carrier for endless sex scenes. The sex here is hot, very hot, and graphic, but mirrors the plot and where its going perfectly.
Stars: four and a half, a bit longer and I've have given it five. Its a keeper files book, and one I’ll re read when series complete in one of my back to back reading fests :)

' I was given a copy of this book from the Publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.'

Dean is a hybrid. He owns a bar and has a brother that he has nothing to do with. One night a cougar shifter comes in his bar and is harassed by a human and he intervenes before she hurts the guy. He takes her back to his place and they get hot and heavy and he realizes that she is his mate and he marks her. But she leaves. He has been looking for Niki for months. When he gets a call from his brother that she is missing he goes with his brother and some friends to save her. Dean has another surprise waiting for him when he finds her.

Niki is a rare white cougar shifter. They are rare because they were made in a lab. Her kind are assassins. They are never supposed to mate or get pregnant. So here she is 3 months after a one night stand, pregnant. Hiding from the guy who insists that she is his mate and now someone found out about the bsby and is after it. She's been kidnapped. Attacked. And now she has to deal with the baby's father again.

Niki may not have been made to fall in love, but will she be able to survive without her mate?

My Opinion: I thought that this was a well written book. The southern shifters series seems to co inside with the Black Cougar Shifters series. I think that the characters are well developed. You can't help but love Dean and fall in love with Niki. She's a badass! There are definitely some hot scenes. I highly recommend reading.

After reading Bad Kitty, I was excited to find out more about Ni

After reading Bad Kitty, I was excited to find out more about Niki and her extraordinary abilities. Niki is tough as nails and almost cruel in her opinion of Dean and the prospect of being a mom. Granted, Niki’s behavior is understandable as her past and her family are revealed. While Niki is all hard edges, Dean gives her balance.

Dean had a rough go of it in this book. He found his mate and when he wakes the next day, she’s gone. His estranged brother, Bhric, shows up weeks later to tell him that not only has Dean’s mate been staying at Bhirc’s bar; she’s also been kidnapped…and is pregnant.

The story is a wild, fast-paced ride filled with rescues, revelations, fights and lots of mated shifter sex. The sex scenes are graphically detailed and had me blushing a number of times. I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the next installment.

When I started this book I was a little bit confused because it

When I started this book I was a little bit confused because it’s based off a short story by this author that I have read in the past. So the first part of the story, to me personally, was repative because I’ve already read it. There were also times that the characters from her other book in this series, Bad Kitty, were brought into this book and it would go back and forth a bit. While it was cool because we got to catch up with those characters and find out what was going on with them, on the other hand I was wondering why they were there and wanted to get back to the characters for this book.
Anyway, I really did like this story once I got to the part where it was new material and information about the shifters. There was a ton of suspense that was happening during this story. Drama, action, sex scenes that were amazing, this story has a little bit of everything. I really like how this series is turning out overall.
The main characters themselves were likeable, I didn’t love them but I did enjoy them. I do want to know more about some of the characters that were mentioned, for instance Dean’s brother. Because he seems really interesting to me and it would be great to find out what is going to happen to him.
One thing that I do enjoy about this author’s writing is that the stories are very fast paced, and you can’t seem to get enough of them. Even though they are fast paced, there was still a great amount of information that was provided so that I wasn’t confused as to what was going on.
I do think that the author is doing a really great job with the shifter novels because they are not just all one thing. There are different breeds that are all mixed together, which makes it completely different than some shifter stories that the shifters are either one breed or another.
Overall I did still enjoy this story and I would continue reading further into the series.

    I Also Recommend:

This is an exciting erotic hybrid shifter romance that captures

This is an exciting erotic hybrid shifter romance that captures the imagination.
Dean lives his life on his own terms keeping life simple and carefree, then one night leads to one bite and right back into the dangerous world he left behind only this time he’s not leaving until he gets what he wants…Niki.  Having lived a life of secrets and solitude Niki Harris has no intention of changing that but an easy one night stand complicates things and she finds herself marked, pregnant an d in danger. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions, Tell the sexy shifter he’s a father or what’s she’s always done…run?
This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with action, suspense and romance.  This shifter world comes to life with vibrant images and great details that capture the imagination. The characters are strong, charming, compelling and grab a hold of the reader and doesn’t let go.  The suspense and action builds lots of delicious spine tingling anticipation as the enemy comes after Niki and this group of southern shifters is going to let them get away with it.
Dean and Niki’s attraction for each other is quite combustible as they come together and the frequent sex scenes explodes from the pages and leave the reader scorched.  The relationship however, is off on rocky ground and keeps the reader on pins and needles to see if this couple will overcome the obstacles and reach their happily ever after.  Take a seemingly tough as nails with ice in her veins and mix her up with a protective hybrid alpha male and what you get is a wild ride to keep the readers thoroughly entertained.
I was enraptured with this story from the very beginning and I love the world and the fascinating characters the author has created. I can’t wait to get to know these southern shifters a lot better.

Dean has left his family and wants only to be left alone. He nev

Dean has left his family and wants only to be left alone. He never planned to fall for anyone and when he has a one night stand with Niki he sees he wants more than one night with her. However Niki only wanted one night. She didn't want to be marked or get pregnant. She is on the run from some dangerous people and having someone claiming to be her mate on her trail is not in her plans. They both will have to work together to keep Niki safe and Niki will see maybe having a mate isn't to bad.

I liked this story as it is hot and has some amazing shifters. Niki isn't one to let anyone order her around and isn't looking for a mate. She now finds herself pregnant and that itself is an odd problem as she didn't think it was possible. Dean has to go back to the family he left behind for help and while it isn't what he wants he finds he wants to be part again. He just has to convince Niki she is his and that she should stay. They have no problem in bed together it is outside their that they have to learn to work together. There is danger as someone is after Niki and will stop at nothing to get her back. However Niki won't go without a fight and you see how tough she is. I liked the side characters and look forward to there stories. If you like shifter books you may enjoy this one.

Niki is a rare white cougar, created and raised in a lab as part

Niki is a rare white cougar, created and raised in a lab as part of an experiment. She's now free, alone, pregnant and on the run from her one night stand.

Dean is a hybrid Jaguar shifter. He's had a falling out with his family and he's on his own and prefers it that way. Until Niki walks into his bar and he immediately recognizes and claims her as his mate. Now he just need to convince Niki of this.

Pretty good read. It's well written, flows smoothly and it's a solid story. I didn't get into this one as much as I did Bad Kitty. It has good bones and I was interested the entire time, just nothing really jumped out at me. I do like that Niki could possibly be the key to figuring out the fertility problem within the shifter community, but the story really never went into any detail about it.

Overall, it has a solid story, the sex is REALLY good but the plot felt a little weak to me. It was an enjoyable read and I will continue with the rest of the series. I wouldn't pay anymore than $.99 for this.

    My Favorite Quotes:
"You call me mate one more time and I'll be borrowing a knife from Calder over there to slice off your balls."

"F*** that. Ain't stopping now. They come in now they better pull up a effing chair and watch cause this show is started." ."

"Open your eyes and look at me, babe. Watch me as I take what is mine. Because I effing  love it."

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!! Awesome Shifter

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!! Awesome Shifter Romance!!!
***Received the ebook from Gyspy Ink Books for an honest review

The cover is yummy :)  He is oh my gosh HOT, and you definitely don’t recognize the beasty in the background.  But you recognize bits once you’ve read the awesome story :)

Okay, I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t read the rest of the series YET, and I say yet because I own them and heck my mom has already read them.  If it wasn’t for time, I would have read them first.  I will definitely be adding this book to my library as well because my mom will want to read it :)

I loved it this book from the start :)  I was sucked right in and there is plenty of action mixed in with the sexual tension and content to make me very happy.  I read it straight through without putting it down.  I even paused the book I was reading because I needed a shifter fix ;)

Okay, I absolutely love Niki because she is strong and a fighter.  She doesn’t even realize how much she needs Dean which makes me love her all the more.  Dean is mysterious and sexy and all male with his dominant tendencies which Niki is having none of, but he also has this deep down hurt and needs Niki.  I won’t tell you more than that because I don’t want to ruin it; you’re going to have to read it ;)

There is also a great mix of secondary characters that I already love, so Eliza better keep writing because I want their stories too :)  I love series like this so I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more.

I highly recommend this book to all my shifter lovers out there…you know who you are ;)
