Beaded Images II: Intricate Beaded Jewelry Using Brick Stitchby Barbara E. Elbe, Monte Smith (Editor), Denise E. Knight (Editor)
Here's a second chance to break out of the traditional brick stitch earring mold! Once again Barbara Elbe gives us a glimpse of her creative genius with a series of original earring patterns that explore the many different shapes into which beads may be sculptured. The amazing detail of these designs results from the use of smaller beads. Delica beads are primarily used, along with some hexagons, but size 14/ seed beads may be substituted.
The book includes basic information on beads, needles, thread, wax, workspace and lighting. Techniques for basic brick stitch, fringe, and the methods needed for bead sculpturing, i.e., increasing and decreasing the number of beads in a row, are fully explained and illustrated in great detail.
Chapter Two contains earring designs with horizontal base rows, ranging from a penguin hanging by its beak to flying mallard ducks and a horse rearing on its hind legs. Chapter Three has patterns with vertical base rows and is filled with cuddly cats, a big-eared dog and a yellow ducky. Extended and recessed Ear Wire Loops are explained, as is adding fringe to vertical earrings. Chapter Four is called Girls, Curls & Clowns and these designs are three-dimensional with noses, bows and curly hair.
All of the techniques needed are fully explained and there are 29 delightful patterns in all. Horizontal patterns included are: Penguin; Mallard; Mallard Taking Off; Wood Duck; Rearing Horse; Peregrine; Grapes; Junk; Pagoda; Sculptured Rose; and Bouquet. Vertical Patterns are: Alley Cat; Siamese Cat; Persian Cat; Big Eared Dog; Lion; Yellow Ducky; Flying Peregrine; Hot Air Balloon; Flower Basket; Mask; and Derringer. Three-Dimensional patterns are:Flapper Girl; Blonde Curly Haired Girl; Girl With Hat; Clown With Red Bow; Orange Curly Haired Clown; Hobo Clown; and Wild Hair Clown. Blank graph paper for creating your own designs is also included. An outstanding book designed for those seeking to stretch their creative legs.
