Pop artist Todd H. Doodler (a.k.a. Todd H. Doddler) put furry creature undergarments on the map with his very funny Bear in Underwear. Now he adds a risky style statement to the mix with Bear in Pink Underwear. Cute, colorful geometric art lavished on two topics that young kids just love.

Children's Literature - Maggie L. Schrock
Bear loves to play soccer. He plays on the Red Devils team. The Red Devils are number one, thanks to Bear and his lucky white underwear. In the big game against the Blue Jays, Bear tries to make the winning goal. However, he slips in the mud and the game ends in a tie. Bear goes home and washes his uniform and lucky underwear in preparation for the next game. Bear arrives at the rematch the following day wearing his uniform and lucky underwear. Unfortunately, his "tighty whities" turned pink in the wash. The players for the Blue Jays make fun of Bear. In the last minute of the game, the Red Devils and the Blue Jays are tied again. Will bear make the heroic play? Doodler captures the young reader with a cute story about teamwork and friendship, as well as captivating illustrations of woodland creatures. Reviewer: Maggie L. PreS-K—Bear is a soccer player on a team called the Red Devils, and he wears his lucky undershorts for every game. During a match played in the rain, he is close to the goal when he slips on the grass. The game ends in a tie, and everyone is covered in mud. At home, Bear throws his red shirt and white underwear into the washer. Next day, when he shows up in pink underwear, his teammates make fun of him: "You stink and your shorts are pink!" But they play the game and Bear scores the winning goal. Suddenly pink is great. Now the team is called the Pink Devils, with all of the players sporting pink underwear. The digitally created, stylized cartoon illustrations depict an assorted bunch of unappealing creatures. Although the anti-bullying message comes through clearly, the message of conditional acceptance is not a good one. The team only likes Bear when he wins for them. The cover comes with a pull tab. Bear is shown wearing his team uniform, and a word bubble says, "Whatever you do, DON'T pull my shorts down!" A pull of the tab reveals the pink underwear. Skip this one.—Ieva Bates, Ann Arbor District Library, MI
Kirkus Reviews
Unrealistic in several ways but good at least for sniggers, this follow-up to Bear in Underwear (2010) features plenty of views of Bear on the soccer pitch clad in nothing below the waist but undies. The tighty whities of the previous episode give way to dinky pinkies after Bear washes them with his red jersey, but since they're his lucky underwear he bears the continuing mockery of the opposing squad—"You look like a girl!" "You stink and your shorts are pink!" etc.—to score the winning goal. Not only do the losers change their opinion ("Wow, pink's alright!"), but Bear's own team members all don pink BVDs in solidarity: "Pink isn't yucky! It's super cool and super lucky!" While there is some charm to the notion of a soccer team that includes a beaver, a hedgehog and Big Foot, it isn't enough to sustain a whole lot of investment on the part of young readers. Logically minded children will wonder why Bear's lucky (and still-white—this is before the laundry tragedy) undies are the only things gleaming white as Bear and his teammates stand, "covered in mud, including Bear and his lucky underwear." A sliding panel on the front cover that drops Bear's shorts with the pull of a tab is the high (low) point of this dismal one-joker. (Picture book. 4-6)
