Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Susan Borges
This easy-to-read, scary story will be immensely enjoyed by reluctant readers who are too old to be genuinely frightened, and delighted to own a chapter book that they can actually read. The setting for this fantasy mystery is the Library of Doom, which is the world's largest collection of dangerous books. The Librarian, who has been traveling for a very long time, discovers that his deadly books have been stolen. Now the world is in terrible danger and the Librarian knows that he must find these missing volumes. The text on each page of this appealing mystery book is printed in a variety of sizes and fonts, the most important words are printed in bold type, and each paragraph contains only two or three sentences. The eerie black and gray illustrations on each page add greatly to the sense of horror and terror, while contributing to the reader's comprehension of the story. Some readers may not choose to read this scary story, but those who do will be delighted to have a chapter book about a subject of interest that they can read independently. This spooky tale will encourage reluctant readers to read and share their book with friends, optimizing their enjoyment of reading. Reviewer: Susan Borges
