But that all comes to a screeching halt when caring for the head roadie for Runaway Train puts her into the orbit of drummer and Latin Lover, AJ Resendiz. After a scorching weekend of steamy passion, Mia's intention of getting out with her heart unscathed is challenged by the stud with the wicked sense of humor, especially when he wants to continue seeing her. But when the harsh reality of AJ's hoard of female admirers sends her insecurities into overdrive, Mia bails, leaving him handcuffed to his bathroom shower.

AJ never imagined that after two weeks of the best sex and female companionship he'd ever experienced, he would need rescued by his band mates from his shower prison. Although he tries to forget the sensual brunette whose curves made his mouth water, AJ can't get her out of his mind...or his heart. Months later when he finally seeks Mia for answers as to why she left, nothing could prepare him for their life-altering reunion.

Can AJ prove to Mia that regardless of the women after his body, his heart belongs only to her?

This was a wonderful story with lots of steamy scenes, plenty of mushy ones, and two people that are totally made for each other. With a fantastic cast of characters and a great story line this book easily had my undivided attention from the very beginning.
Mia has a lot of emotional baggage but she has a great personality and when AJ says something cocky she fires right back with something to put him in his place. AJ is hot, funny, and a truly nice and genuine person. He is constantly there to help Mia with her self esteem issues and remind her just how great she is.They both had me cracking up several times during the book with their snarky comments back and forth to each other as well as when they are with friends. There was also plenty of hot moments between them. They were very likeable and I felt like they were very real while I was engrossed in their story.
The characters were all written well and I enjoyed how both AJ and Mia’s family interacted as well as the band was like a whole other family. The story was totally engrossing and time easily slipped by while I was glued to my tablet, eager to find out how their story turned out. Even after I finished the book,I found myself thinking about the story while doing other tasks. To me, that is the mark of a truly good book and I think it deserves a solid 5 out of 5 stars. I can’t wait to read Rhys’ book!!

This book has me speaking in tongues! It is “muy caliente” and “bellissimo” and I don’t speak Spanish or Italian like the characters in this book. But if I were to order from this menu, I would say it was a spicy meatball on a bed of linguini! This is the second book in Katie Ashley’s Runaway Train Series. I fell in love with members of the band Runaway Train in her first book Music of the Heart. This book features their drummer, Alejandro Joaquin (AJ) Resendiz, a Latin lover with a heart of gold if he can just live down his reputation. Mia Martinelli is a Sicilian (former NFL star’s daughter), nurse who has had her heart stomped on by the men of her past. Her trust issues and the baggage left behind from their traitorous actions have her crippled by the fear of letting love into her heart. She tries to control situations in attempts to avoid the pain that is certainly to follow. AJ is extremely charming and appears to be sincere but she is just too jaded to let him in. Not one to back down from a challenge, AJ sets out to win the heart of this Italian princess.

“…Not until I hear you say ‘AJ, you are the master of the universe’.” …”On second thought, you need to say ‘AJ, you are the master of my universe and my master orgasm donor’.”

The sassy banter back and forth had me grinning from ear to ear. AJ could dish it as well as take it from head strong Mia. In the entertainment business he rarely found people who were “real” with him. Mia’s ability to cut through the bull had AJ pressing to know more about this nurse with the ability to have him struck dumb with her witty comments. AJ was so sweet at times with Mia, trying to break down the wall she had erected around her heart. He scaled that wall more than once only to find she was building it higher each time he was about to reach the top. Finally she was going to have to make a choice to either let her past dictate her future or start a future with AJ.

This book has a message to keep moving forward, to not let fear cripple us emotionally and physically from living a fulfilling life. Too often we are frozen by the mistakes of our pasts and unable to move forward and enjoy our lives. One moment in time shouldn’t define one’s life. Forgiveness is not for the other person. It is for you, so that you can move on and not be stuck in that moment reliving it over and over, a perpetual cycle of hell. I loved this book so much for its humor, inspirational message and unique perspective on a half-lived life.

I loved AJ in the first book. It was great to really see all the sides of him. Mia was a excellent match for him. I laugh & cried with each chapter I read. I highly recommend this series to every book lover out there. All the guys of run away train are sexy & fun and just damn hot! And the women they fall in love with suit them to a tee! Don't miss this great series! !!

Katie did again with a great sequel to book #1 (Music of the Heart). Again, drama, laughs, crying, romance & sex all rolled into 1 story. Love of the appearance of the characters from book#. Love how you get an update on them, but they don't overshadow the current main characters. Believable story set in today time, Love this. Bring on book 3......excited for Rhys book!!!

AJ and Mia did get swept up in a gust of love. From backsploshin

AJ and Mia did get swept up in a gust of love. From backsploshing (yep, I'm using it) the orange drink on AJ's lap to Mia mocking how much he can't control himself, much less his release, the two were a match made from destiny.
I really liked Beat of the Heart. A solid 4 star read. It does have a couple of scenes where you could see them coming or the foreshadowing was blatantly obvious, but it was a really fun, well-written read for me.
There were some yummy, down and dirty sex scenes that will get your heart pumping, but there are some deliciously sweet scenes that will make you swoon.
I didn't find that Beat of the Heart had angst just for the sake of it. What is involved is well deserved and the appropriate response of the character. The story flows nicely and finishes the story up in a nice way. I didn't feel like the plot was rushed, it kept it's steady rhythm, just like AJ would to the beat of his drum.

I seen some comments from some fellow blogging friends and the conscientious it that you like reviews to be short and sweet, don't give anything away, and just state a general feeling or tone for the book. With that said, there are a large number of you would like to know if it is is a series (what series, book 3,etc,) is it a standalone, does it have an HEA or does it have a cliffhanger.
To me, myself and I, I personally don't care about any of the above unless it is a cliffhanger. With the last huge batch of book that I have read, less than 1% had a unhappy ending and that seems to be a general flow in the romance genre. Maybe it would be best to say, Wait, this isn't the perfect HEA, it's something else and leave it at that.

Great story, loved it! We met A. J. in Music of the Heart. He is the drummer in the band, Runaway Train. I loved his strength and sense of family even when Mia pushed him away time after time. A. J. kept fighting for their relationship. I realized Mia had issues with her low-life ex-boyfriends but A. J. should not have to pay for their horrible behavior. Graphic sex, way too much profanity and unlimited water works from Mia. Is it even possible to cry that much? But still a great story.

Seriously, who doesn't want a hot Latin Lover to show you a good time?? And add in that he's got a heart of gold, a sense of humor, strong commitment to friends and family, and a huge capacity to love? Check, check, check and check! Beat of the Heart was just what I needed to bring me out of a book slump and keep my eyes glued to the page from the very beginning!

I read and loved Jake & Abby's story in Music of the Heart and couldn't wait to get my hands on AJ after meeting him in that book! Katie Ashley did not disappoint. This installment of the Runaway Train series had steam, rock star moments, sweetness, painful pasts, unknown futures, drama, family, love, and some seriously hot scenes! I really felt Katie delivered with Beat. One of the things that I felt she did particularly well was the dialogue and involving me right into the lives of Mia, AJ, and their friends and family. Also, she told the story from both AJ's and Mia's points-of-view. Transitions were seamless and the internal voices distinct. With all of the secondary characters (Jake, Abby, Rhys, Bray, Lily, Duke, Dee, and more) there was the potential to have this story pull away from being truly about Mia and AJ. It was all about Mia and AJ with the others as key to the central story.

AJ, as we met him in Music, is the sexy drummer who has all the right moves. He is all that and more in Beat. I freaking love him!!! Mia is a cancer care nurse who is fighting grief and rejection. She is real and beautiful and is quick with a comeback. But she is fighting some serious demons. I loved the interactions between these two, from the funny to the naughty. Their chemistry jumped off the pages! There is so much more I could say, but I don't want to spoil it for you. Go, grab Beat of the Heart and travel along AJ's and Mia's journey!
