Barnes & Noble - David Sprague
Beatles 1 is the first single-disc collection that spans every facet of the Fab Four's career, from Merseybeat mavens to punchy rockers to masters of nuanced pop-craft. The 27 chart-topping hits presented herein leave little doubt about why Beatlemania gripped the world in the '60s, beginning with the band's first stateside hit, "Love Me Do," and carrying on through scream-inducing hits such as "Can't Buy Me Love" and "A Hard Day's Night." As the '60s wore on, Lennon and McCartney grew more interested in expanding their methods of expression, as evidenced by timeless ballads such as "Yesterday" and "Hey Jude" as well as edgier rockers such as "Ballad of John and Yoko" ...

To hear the Beatles' artistic apex, you'll still need Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band and The Beatles White Album, neither of which generated any proper singles and therefore are not represented on Beatles 1. Longtime Beatles fans won't find anything new here, but anyone looking to spread the gospel according to John, Paul, George, and Ringo couldn't find a more powerful dose of ammo than this.

    1 of a kind

The first thing that appealed to me about this Cd was the shipping speed, it only took 2 days to come! The sound quality is great and the amount of songs for the price was just perfect. The songs were great, the Cd contained a few of my favorites(Yellow Submarine, Lady Madonna, Let it be). I Have recommended this song to many of my friends already. You should definitely listen to this album, it will rock your mind! Let the Beatles live long!

    I Also Recommend:

An excellent compliation of the best band ever

What can I say? The Beatles are number 1. Always have been -- always will be. The first 15 or so songs are from their early years singing about love etc... with major hits like Love Me Do, I Want to Hold Your Hand and the ever popular She Loves You. Subsequently, the album shows their later smashes like Get Back and the ballad Hey Jude. And moreover, Lennon's funky bass lead song Come Together (my personal favorite). Without a doubt, this is an important part of anyone's collection -- no matter what genre of music one might listen to. The Beatles will go down in history as a monumental band that evolved over time and birthed in a new type of sound that still resonates to this day. Their influence is global -- be part of it.

Beatles Do It Again and Again...Legendary Album

This album is a strong compilation of some of the most "playable" and significant Beatles music. Reviewing an album of a chronology songs that are in the category of "classical" seems not relevant. What I will say is that this album gives you an understanding of the evolution and contribution of the Beatles during the time they were composing. This album I have already placed on my iPod as a playlist and I listen to it all the time. Being a strong Beatles admirer, I follow all that they put out. Paul McCartney's DVD in "Red Square" is fabulous, slightly gritty and history making. He also contributed his take on life in the book "Kids Who Think Outside The Box"...look it up..an inspiring read. McCartney carries on for the Beatles...innovating, performing and inspiring. He is a living legend. This album is a must have. Must...Must...Must

    Not a One Among 'em

I didnt really care all that much about the Beatles' music when they were actively recording, but since listening to "One" I've become a fan. So much so that I culled a number of other Beatle's songs and ripped off a CD that I titled, "Not a One Among 'em". I think its every bit as good as "One"

    genius

I think the best thing about this album is that so many young people actually now know who the Beatles are and listen to their music. 1 offers basically all the "big" hits from the Beatles like "Hey Jude" and "Let It Be" (which were always two of my absolute favorites). I already had the red and blue albums, so I really didn't need this album. The red and blue albums actually offer more than just the #1 songs, so in a way they're a lot better. I also had another album that wasn't called the same but had exactly the same songs in the exact same order...kind of odd. I lost that album though. I still bought 1, though, and it's one of my favorite CDs (along with most of my other Beatles CDs). It's one of those albums that you can play with your friends and you all will know most (if not all) of the songs. This is highly recommended for people who want to buy their first Beatles CD (like teenagers) because it gives you all of their #1 hits (which you probably already know or should know). Of course, don't forget the other Beatles songs. Most of their greatest songs actually never became singles and/or never made it to #1.

    Great hits album...hope they'll be a '2'!

It was a matter of time before the Beatles would release a single-disc set of their biggest hits. Like the Elvis Presley '30 #1 Hits', we get 27 #1 (in the US/UK) Beatles hits, meaning "Hey Jude", "I Want to Hold Your Hand", "Something" and "Ticket to Ride" on the same disc (arguably '1' has among the best songs ever written). A great way to introduce anyone to the Beatles who doesn't have any of their albums. What would be nice is a follow-up, probably called '2' which would have great album tracks and lesser hits like "Got to Get You Into My Life", "Back in the USSR", "Michelle", "Don't Let Me Down", and "Strawberry Fields Forever". Would be a great companion to '1' to give the buyer who bought '1' another reason to visit the Beatles section of the store who might not know what other regular album to buy

    a good cd

if you're a fan of the Beatles, you will definetly like this cd. But if you have their other cd's, don't buy it. It's pretty much just a greatest hits cd.

    The Beatles Rock

This is a great CD and for those of you who say well if you have the red and blue albums theres no point to this one but consider this the Beatles had alot of studio albums all wonderful but there were songs left of that were only single or compialation material such as The Ballad Of John and Yoko Lady Madonna and Day Tripper which can only be found on single or The Hey Jude album I belive or othere compialations excluding The red and blue albums. If sombody has all of The Beatles Studio albums and there 20 greatest hits they are still missing these songs and they may not want to shell out the money for the red and blue albums for three songs so in addition to being a great compialation it gives you three songs that even the biggest fan may be missing unless they have them on single or compialation and the Hey Jude album I mentioned I belive is out of print but I luckily found it on vinyl or you could get them on the Past Masters but you may not want to if you have most of those songs in short this is an excellent CD which should not be overlooked.

    Nice Album

This album was a great compilation of a number of the Fab Four's hit singles. The greatest tracks on the album are: Yesterday, Paperback Writer, Hello, goodbye, Hey Jude, and Something. My only complaint is that George Martin excluded some of the other material on the old style vynils, like Rain, or Old Brown Shoe. Still an awesome collection.

    Beatles One- A Winner!

I think this is a good album if you really love the Beatles... the songs are great (of course, because they are the #1 hits!)The down side of this album... all of these songs are already on other albums!! I really do feel that no Beatles collection is complete without the addition of "Beatles One"! You should make the investment!
