The definitive last word on what they played and how they played it

How do you score a Beatles recording? The Beatles never wrote anything down except lyrics, and George Martin (as far as I know) has never made his written arrangements public. In the past, Beatles sheet music sold in music stores was often "dumbed down" for the average player or just plain wrong. As a kid I would buy every Beatles song book as soon as it came out, and I found the inaccuracies terribly frustrating. I only bought the books to see what the "wierd chords" were, and the books would have them wrong! Even today I find it amazing, as incredibly popular as these songs are and as long as they've been around, how so many sources of musical information or lyrics on the internet are painfully inaccurate. Then comes this book, which contains not just the lyrics and the "wierd chords," but every note played by every instrument on EVERY SONG they recorded (post-EMI contract, anyway... the songs they cut with Pete Best are not included). I'm a composer and I refer to this book frequently because it's absolutely brilliant; it really should be a textbook in music schools. As far as I can tell, the four guys from Japan who put this together back in 1989 got it spot-on. I've had it for several years now and have not yet come across an error.

    I Also Recommend:

    Excellent Beatles Resource!

This is one of the best, if not the best, songbooks that I've ever come across. It has the musical notation for virtually every instrument played on all Beatles songs, including tab for bass and guitars. I've found it to be amazingly accurate, though not perfect.

I have only two *minor* complaints:

    1. It is not 100% accurate; in some songs when the verses repeat, I have found differences in what I hear in the recorded version from what's in the book;

    2. The print is very small.

Both the above minor drawbacks are very negligible relative to the work as a whole, and I almost hesitate to mention them. It is still the most accurate songbook of any rock and roll music that I've ever found, and the small print is quite understandable considering the sheer volume of Beatles songs. I highly recommend this book for any Beatles fan or serious musician.

    Beatles Fan

This book is great. Where else can you find the full score for every Beatles song ever written. The print is small and it is a little bit expensive but all and all this book is a great buy.

    Not perfect, but best available

The odd thing about this volume is that some of the more difficult passages are spot-on accurate, while the simpler passages anyone can figure out by ear are where the many of the transcription mistakes lie.

    I Also Recommend:

    IT's TRUE! The Beatles! COMPLETE!

This book has everything you need to to play any & all instruments that were played in any & all the songs in this Complete Scores book.
I didn't believe it, but when I got it, the title is true.
The Beatles Complete Scores by The Beatles.
This is the closest thing to the actual physical music sheets themselves.
I am pleasantly pleased with this book and I believe any musician that is a Beatles fan will not be disappointed.
    Good Job Mates!!!

    Valuable Reference Material

Very accurate transcriptions of Beatles songs released in America. For a lover of The Beatles music, it can save hours of sitting at a CD player figuring out the parts, and it is more accurate than all but the best transcribers could achieve. The only shortcoming of this collection is it would be easier to read if it was much larger. It is hard to use on a music stand.

Great book, but not really 'complete'

If you're setting out on your first tentative steps as a musician or maybe you fall into the intermediate catagory then you won't be disappointed with this book. It's very thorough and to be quite honest at first read it's an absolute minefield of information that'll help you lear the songs like the record...... or will they? If like me you fall into the purest semi-professional catagory this book is pockmarked with mistakes most of which most musicians who like the beatles wouldn't have made. For example, the song If I Needed Someone has the lead guitar part written without a capo on the 7th fret of the guitar. George played that song with a capo on the 7th fret to make it easier to play, very similar to Here Comes The Sun. They have however, transcribed the latter correctly. After all's said and done though, the book is very well thought out and looks good on the coffee table.

    Outstanding Resource

This book validates rock and roll to any and all 'classical' musicians who thumb their nose at 'that silly music.' The attention to detail in these scores is truly remarkable. It's a testament to the brilliance of the Beatles and an essential addition to any musician's library.

Learn to play it like the Beatles

Unlike most sheet music out there, this will show you how to play the score like the Beatles. Each song includes the lead, rhthym, bass & drum lines along with TAB for nor music readers. Some minor mistakes with vocals, but probably the best Beatles sheet music you'll find. The only problem is the relatively small print compared to my relatively not so good eyesight.

    Beatles Score Book

This book...is amazing.I don't know where I'd be if it wasn't for this book.I'm not kidding.I am the biggest Beatles fan (bigger than you!) and I always wanted to be like Paul.I started playing bass guitar about a year and a half ago, not knowing much about anything. But then, I literally taught myself bass by playing along with the albums using this book.I'm so happy this book exists, but why don't they make a dylan score book?! anyway, thank you to whoever thought of making this book. (by the way, if you can't read the book, get new glasses) something is wrong with 'the sun king' also if you have the book and haven't noticed. Ta-Ta for now.

    The Best Book so far!

The book is a complete dream come true! it has transcriptions from piano, guitar, drums and many, many more! Some of the tabs are a little wierd, and they have small print which I don't really need since I know most of the lyrics to my favorite songs. Plus the music I just have to memorize to make it a bit easier. Plus like a few people said the vocal is messed up in Paperback Writer(this also occours in Rocky Raccon and Rain). A dream! A few mistakes, but nothing a regular musican can't fix.

    Should come with magnifying glass.

I am 28yrs old with pretty good eye sight. I got this book for Chistmas. I was thrilled I love the Beatles. But once I unwrapped it I was very disappointed. the print is sooo small. I am hoping I can return it. But since I took it out of its boxs and removed the clear wrap . I may be stuck with a book I can barely read.

    Wow

It is amazing. The first day it arrived, I spent at least ten hours just jamming along with my albums. Sure, the print is a little small... but it still rocks!@ Only downside... no 'My Bonnie' .. oh well...
