Overview

When life's always been a mess, can you still turn it into something beautiful?

Jace Riley's close connection with his identical twin brother, Jaxon, is put to the test when he tries to choose between keeping his promises and following his heart. Is this girl that still haunts his dreams, even after four years, really worth it? Jace can't help but wonder if he made a huge mistake all that time ago when he let her walk into someone else's arms, especially since that someone was his twin.

Audrey Mills often wonders at what point she should throw her hands up in defeat and allow all of the horrible circumstances of her life to overtake her. Despite the demons she has faced, however, something inside her won't give in. When she leaves her small town in Texas to attend college in California, Audrey runs into the one guy who could make her or break her. But is the past they share too painful for them to overcome?

This is the second book in the broken series, it's recommended you read Beautiful Broken Rules before Beautiful Broken Mess.

New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance - recommended for ages 18 and up.

    Meh

Didn't like this one near as well as the first book. The characters weren't well enough developed, the story didn't flow well and the whole thing just felt very rushed and not well enough thought out. I may still read the next book in the series just to see if it is any better.

"To say it simply, my life is a broken mess. In the back of my mind, I often wonder if people are given a set number of obstacles they have to overcome before they die. If that were the case, then hopefully I've already hit my limit for this lifetime. Because no matter what I do or how I try to live my life, everything seems to come out wrong."

Anyone who read Beautiful Broken Rules probably had the same thought I did upon reading the blurb for this book: ugh, Audrey. I'll be the first to admit I wasn't thrilled about her getting a book of her own because I found her absolutely detestable in the first book, despite the minor role she played. But, I trusted the author and knew there had to be a reason she was writing Audrey's book. She had to have a redeemable quality or two. You guys. I absolutely loved Audrey in this book. Past indiscretions were explained and I realized just how wrong my initial impression was. Audrey was charming, lovable and awkward. She had a horrific past and my heart ached for her. Despite all of it - or perhaps because of it, she was an incredibly strong woman.

"Call it the "White Knight Syndrome," but there's just something about a beautiful damsel in distress and I sure as hell want to be the one to save her."

As much as I loved Jaxon in Beautiful Broken Rules, I think I love Jace more. In Beautiful Broken Rules, he came off as goofy. Charismatic and good at heart, but still goofy. Because part of this book is told from his perspective, I realized there is so much more to him. He is a wonderful man. He is loyal and protective and sexy as hell. He feels like he lives in his twin's shadow - has always felt that way - but feels it more since Jaxon took away the one person Jace wanted, Audrey, all those years ago. But he sucked it up and moved on… until Audrey showed up in California. After he learns the truth and realizes the mistake they all made years ago, he can't help but wonder what it would be like for her to be in his life again.

"But I'm starting to realize the weight this kind of information can have on someone. No one wants to be surprised with the fact that they are now completely vulnerable to another person. Now, whether you like it or not, you have to trust that this person won't hand your heart back in a million tiny abused pieces."

But, nothing is ever easy. Jace and Audrey go through their share of ups and downs, misunderstandings and miscommunications. The chemistry between them was off the charts, no matter how hard they tried to fight it. They love scenes were hot and sexy, the romantic scenes sweet and the misunderstandings and miscommunications oh-so-very frustrating! Through it all, I just kept hoping these two could make it work. They were so obviously right for each other, and had things gone differently years ago, they would already be a couple! Timing is everything, but so is honesty. It's a lesson they both learn.

Fans of Em and Jaxon will be pleased to know they play a pretty big role in this book. I know I was thrilled. I absolutely adored them and was so happy to learn more about their lives together. It was wonderful to see Em and Audrey become friends. The addition of Lane, Audrey's best friend, was also welcome. Suddenly the girl who grew up with so little is surrounded by friends and love. It gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. While this book wasn't all hearts and rainbows, it left me with a huge smile and a tear in my eye. I couldn't have asked for anything different than what the author did. It was brilliant and beautiful.

If I wasn't sure after Beautiful Broken Rules, I am now… Kimberly Lauren is one of my new favorite authors and has hit the auto-buy author list. Her writing is refreshing, her characters amazing and complex, her stories interesting and unique. I can't wait for Lane's story, Beautiful Broken Promises.

I was really surprised by this book. Truly. Kimberly took a pretty big risk making an antagonist from the first book the heroine in this one. It was worth taking.

Audrey is Jax's ex-wife (ish) and shows up a the worst possible time in Beautiful Broken Rules announcing that Jax is her hubby. I HATED her. Hate hate hated her. I was sure that this book was going to be a total bust for me for that reason. I was completely wrong. Getting to see what was happening in her head throughout all of things that we saw in BBR was enlightening.

"I was wrong. It doesn't matter the reasons I had at the time, I was wrong. I'm so sorry. I can't seem to get my head on straight around you. From the very beginning, I should have stepped up and put you first. If you give me another chance, you'll always be first to me... I swear. Please forgive me."

Audrey quickly won me over, as she did Em. She was really such a good person, and so perfect for Jace. When they were together they made perfect sense. It was really quite beautiful to see how they were with one another. Jace is SO different from Jax that it is hard to even imagine what the relationship between Audrey and Jax would have been like. It's mind boggling really.

"I want to be here foe you from now on. I want to hold you safe all night and watch you wake up in the mornings. I want your happy forgiving spirit to ease my soul every day."

I was so happy that the entire group was able to actually listen to her story and that she was able to forgive them for the snap judgements that they had made. I loved how they were able to seemlessly incorporate her into the group, even if there were still secrets being kept.

"Audrey, I need you to say it."
    "Say what?" she asks slowly.
"Say what's written all over your face. Say what's on your fingers every time you touch me. Say what's in your eyes every morning when we wake up together. Say what your body feels every time I'm inside of you. Please... just say it."

Without giving anything away, there is a pretty huge tragedy in this book. I was shocked by it, but not so much by Jace's actions. I loved that through everything Audrey was able to see that he was in a place where he wasn't thinking clearly and was still supportive of him (for the most part) and was able to forgive him.

"Audrey, you've been in my head since the moment I met you and you never left. Baby, I sure as hell don't deserve you but I can't imagine anyone else being the mother of my children or being the hand I hold at the end of every day. You're my lucky penny, remember?"

I really really liked this book. I gave it 4 stars. It was a beautiful story of forgiveness and hope and love. All kinds of love. I can not wait for Lane's story in book 3, Beautiful Broken Promises, due out next year.

I pull the penny up close and read the words out loud that he's stamped into the metal.
    Lucky to have found you.
    Blessed to have you.blockquote>

I love this series!!! Kimberly Lauren has outdone herself once again, I was not able to put the book down until I finished. The best part is that it is written in Jace and Audrey’s POV. I never expected Jace to be a bit controlling and Alpha-Male. I loved Jace since the first book and now I am claiming him as Mine!!!
Although I didn’t like Audrey in the first book, this one just proves that there is always 2 truths to one story and not everything is as it seems. She was raised by abusive parents that didn’t want her since birth. But she is a survivor, no matter how hard they try to break her she finds a way to pull thru.
Audrey meets Jace by accident; literally, he slams into her making her drop all her groceries. Once she goes down from her state of panic she finally notices Jace. He is sweet, attentive and a total gentleman, that is until their first kiss. Jace is determined to see her again, and sooner rather than later. He invites her to Cole’s party for later that evening. This is where it all goes to shreds before it even starts.
A few years later Audrey and her guy best friend Lane, get accepted into a highly prestigious graduate program. It just happens to be the same one as Jace and Jaxon attend and she is determined to stay away from them. She applies for a few jobs and gets a call back from a bar that Emerson is working at. This is where their new friendship begins and some misunderstandings are clarified. With Emerson’s help she is finally able to come clean with Jaxon about how their relationship ended.
Regardless of what happened with Audrey years ago Jace and Audrey still want each other. Jace tries to fight it but he is only human and he caves in. He is not ready to tell Jaxon just yet so he keeps Audrey as his dirty little secret. All this hiding comes to a halt after an accident occurs and Jace lashes out on Audrey. It takes him a while to realize his mistake and he might just have lost the love of his life.
This book is an awesome read; I was enthralled since the first paragraph. I could feel the love and the angst throughout Jace and Audrey’s story. Kimberly has officially become one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read what she has in store for us with Lane’s story. ***ARC was provided by the Author in exchange for an honest review***

I received and ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely fell in love with this book. Kimberly Lauren has a way of writing that completely connects you to the characters and you are rooting for them, no matter what’s going on.
Throughout this book, you FEEL what the characters are feeling, I don’t know how many times I had tears in my eyes because of what Audrey was feeling or what she was going through. Audrey had so many awful things that she’s gone through; it’s hard to believe how strong of a person she’s become. Most people break down when all that happens, but not Audrey. I don’t even know what else to say without giving too much away.
Then there’s Jace, oh man, how can you not love Jace? He is loyal to a fault, but will do anything for the people he loves. There were a few times that I wanted to smack him, because he had some pretty dumb moments, but he always made up for it in the end.
I don’t know what to say about the book without giving too much away, but it is a MUST READ! I honestly haven’t read Beautiful Broken Rules yet, but I will be here soon for sure. This book could be read as a stand alone, you never really feel like you’re missing to much because you didn’t read the other one.
Like I said, I absolutely loved this book and will be adding it to my “to be read again” pile for sure! I’ll also be looking for more books from Kimberly Lauren. She just has a way of writing that sticks to you. Really I wish I could rate this 10 stars, because I really think it’s worth 10 stars.

    4.5 stars!!!!!

I loved this book more than the first. Jace, Jaxon, Cole and Lane!! Wow so much hottness! I actually loved Audrey. I wasn't sure I would considering she was a huge heffer in book one. She comes from a bad childhood and my heart just broke for her. The only reason I am giving a 4.5 is because they didn't talk things out. And that drives me nuts!!

You get to catch up with all the characters from book 1, Jax, Em, Quinn and Cole. You also get to meet Lane, who is total hottness! Can't wait for his book! If you liked the first one, you will like this one!
