Overview

The Carmichaels and the Grahams have gathered on Nantucket for a wedding. Plans are being made according to the wishes of the bride's late mother, who left behind The Notebook: specific instructions for every detail of her youngest daughter's future nuptials. Everything should be falling into place for the beautiful event—but in reality, things are far from perfect.

While the couple-to-be are quite happy, their loved ones find their own lives crumbling. In the days leading up to the wedding, love will be questioned, scandals will arise, and hearts will be broken and healed. Elin Hilderbrand takes readers on a touching journey in BEAUTIFUL DAY—into the heart of marriage, what it means to be faithful, and how we choose to honor our commitments.

Editorial Reviews

The Nantucket wedding could not have been more meticulously planned. Leaving nothing to chance, the young bride's late mother had left behind an entire notebook of carefully delineated instructions for the weekend event. What even she could not have anticipated, however, was the chronic lack of harmony among the assembled guests. Frayed marriages, infidelity, personality clashes, seething tensions, and even the eruption of scandal threaten to ruin the nuptials. By the end, though, calmer minds and hearts prevail and Elin Hilderbrand's Beautiful Day lands just where we would want it to. A perfect beach read; don't forget the sunscreen.

Elin Hilderbrand writes a book every summer, and I have read a few of them. With this book, she tackles a lighter subject, and in my opinion, it is her best to date. Hilderbrand has always excelled at making interesting characters and conversations, but the books were sometimes light in conflict and plot. With the wedding theme, the characters are forced to be together in one place, and that builds up suspense since many of them do not get along, to put it mildly. There are no crimes, diseases, or horrible secrets to be had--just a lot of lovers quarrels between couples, some of which survive and some that do not. Overall, the book paints a positive message about love and forgiveness that most people will find pleasing. I would not recommend this book for everybody. Like most or all Hilderbrand books, it is very elitist. The characters are quite above average in terms of their money, education and success, and these accomplishments are often info dumped for no apparent reason. A good read though.

I loved the premise of this book with the bride's late mother leaving behind a notebook of her wishes for her daughter's wedding. I have always enjoyed the beach setting and the family dramatics in the books I have read by [author:Elin Hilderbrand|88301] and this one did not disappoint. This was an enjoyable, light read with a great touch of emotion. It was touching that the daughter was adamant on following her mother's wishes for the wedding and that the family respected it.

I did not like this particular book b/c it was just terribly BORING and b/c it just was not a good plot or storyline in my opinion. If you consider characters just arguing with one another a good book, then read it. I was very disappointed and I also feel some of her recent books don't match up in quality of her earlier books.

A Beautiful Day is about all of the things that go awry as youngest daughter, Jenna is about to marry Stuart on the island of Nantucket.  Older sister,Margot. acts as the surrogate mother after the mother's death seven years earlier.  The mother leaves behind a Notebook with strict instructions on how the wedding should proceed.  The Notebook ends up in the hands of the father of the bride's second wife.  The wedding is almost called off due to some omitted information; Margot's clandestine affair ends in pain; extramarital affairs ensue; a woman who broke up the parents of the groom is present and chaos seems to be in every corner of the island.  But cooler heads prevail and it truly turns out to be a beautiful wedding day. A very realistic read aand a page turner.

i thought this book was not as good as her previous ones. This is a story regarding a young girl's wedding & the planning & execution is dictated by her deceased mother through a diary she leaves behind. It also recounts the remarkable influence she exerted over her family, especially her husband, during her lifetime. The events which follow concern other aspects that develop & are somewhat interesting.

I read all of her books and look forward to new ones being released. I enjoyed this book since it was written with a different plot than the usual love story. This was a love story of a family, whether it was between them and the old family house, the tree in the backyard, love between sisters/step-sisters, etc. It is a real tear-jerker, so prepare yourself. Elin Hilderbrand has a way of talking about Nantucket as though it's another character in the book, and I love that about her!

This is a beach read but I couldn't wait to pick it up each day. Characters are human with individual flaws that lead them to face their own challenges in the book. FUN!
